Ellen's Story
Life
I graduated from New York University in 1998 with a BFA in Drama. I got married in 2000 to a guy named Dave. He is a writer and I met him at NYU. After 9 years in New York City, I moved (with husband and cat) to Los Angeles in July 2003. Dave is a TV writer and I am an actress, writer, and producer. The cat is mostly asleep. I'm still best friends with Rob Decker after all these years!
School
Ya'll probably remember me as a goody-two-shoes who always did her homework. That isn't exactly true. I was secretly a bad-ass (I skipped school and cheated on tests occasionally), but I looked so innocent I never got caught. I knew from the time I was 2 years old that I wanted to be an actress, so I was focused on trying to get my education over with so I could go to New York and do that. I didn't care about my grades or class ranking or school spirit or anything like that. I knew high school wouldn't be the highlight of my life. And OH MY GOD I hated algebra. I was madly in love with Kevin Snyder (class of '94) and we were inseparable from 1992-1994. I always had lots of Mountain Dew-fueled fun times with Darcy Brandt (I miss her!!), Rob Decker, Kevin and Kelly Bilko. I skipped senior year to go to college early and I'm really glad I did. I ...Expand for more
remember on the night of our senior prom I did laundry in my dorm in New York. I had a huge zit on my nose, so I thought that worked out fine. If I had high school to do over again, I would have partied more and expanded my circle of friends.
College
I was blessed to arrive at NYU to find Joanna Kelly as my roommate. We are total opposites but somehow became instant best friends and ended up being roommates for 5 years. I never drank a drop of alcohol before I went to college, so shots of Goldshlagger were forced upon me almost immediately. Freshman year I didn't have a computer. I wrote papers on a word processor and saved them on floppy disks! I lived in Rubin Hall for 3 years (2 of them with a cat in my dorm room). Junior year I got a coveted single room on a floor with all freshmen. My "suitemates" next door were 3 very fun guys, Patrick, Matty and Neighbor Dave, who kept me laughing. NYU is a bit of a monstrous entity and I had quite a few insane acting teachers who f---ed with my head; but overall it was a great experience. New York was a wonderful place to live in the mid-nineties. I can't regret my decision to go to NYU because a cat came into my life who is still with me, and I met tons of wonderful people, including my husband.
