Elyssa's Story
Life
Baby arrived early morning June 1, 2006....happy healthy baby girl who is just shy of 5 months old now. Hubby and I celebrate 3 years of wedded bliss tomorrow (10/26/06) and as an anniversary gift we bought a new house. We move to North Springfield (Kings Park area) on 11/17/06....it will be a great place for the baby to grow up!
4/20/07: The new house is fabulous!! We're getting ready for the baby's first birthday celebration, followed closely by my graduation in Boston. Then we head to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard for a week for R&R!! Life is Good!!
11/20/07......we've been in the new house for a year now and we love it! The HHS 20th reunion has come and gone; I think it was an amazing success! We're planning to head up to CT for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I start a grad program at GMU in January - I'm not eager to head back to work, but when Dori is old enough to go to school, I'll be ready to get out of the house for at least part of the day! I'm volunteering as an advisor to the Alpha Phi Omega chapter at GMU....it's fun hanging with the undergrads! Other than that, life is going well!
12/22/07: Can't believe the year is almost over! Life has been exciting, to some degree. I've decided against going to GMU for grad school. I'll be heading back to my alma mater, Cambridge College, instead. Dori fell ill a few weeks back and we spent some time in the ER. During that time, I did a lot of soul searching and realized I really didn't want to teach at the level I thought I did, nor did I want to teach the subject I was focusing on. So, the NITE program at Cambridge will be m...Expand for more
y jumping point once again. Dori is better, thank G-d, but will need further tests to determine if the illness she has is chronic or a one time event. Our fingers are crossed that it was a one time occurance. We're looking forward to our Super Bowl party in February, as we are planning on our NE Patriots being in it! And some time after that, but before school starts, I'll finally have the shoulder surgery that was cancelled when it was discovered I was pregnant with Dori! Here's to a wonderful 2008!!
School
Honestly don't remember much about high school....not the classroom anyway!! I remember ROTC drill meets, football games, prom, basketball games and forensics meets....all the important stuff!! Outside of the building....I remember cruising Route 7, Sterling Blvd, the back roads between the two.....lots of time spent in the car!!
College
After moving home from Atlanta, I discovered American Sign Language and became a certified interpreter. Before I could do any real work interpreting, I became the 7th Hearing Student at Gallaudet University.....I lived on campus, within the Deaf Community, wrote for the school paper, joined a sorority (Delta Zeta) and re-founded a club. While I was there, I met my husband and decided that life with him was worth more than the $17K I was spending a year at Gally. I'm currently finishing my Thesis through Cambridge College in Boston and then I'm DONE!!
11/20/07..... I was accepted to GMU for a grad program in English Secondary Education! I'll combine that with a CAGS in Deaf Education and head back to teaching when Dori goes to school!
