Eric's Story

Life I left Lenox in the summer of '89 with Dunny Donovan in pursuit of rock stardom, I went to live with he and his mom on Wavy Gravy's Hog Farm in Laytonville, CA - Mendocino County – This was the start of my 4 years of college as I saw it, Wavy Gravy was a 60’s counterculture icon (he was the guy at Woodstock that proclaimed "What we have in mind is breakfast in bed for 400,000!", The Hog Farm was started around the same time as Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters and is still known today as Americas Longest Running Hippie Commune. Ken, Alan Ginsberg and Hunter Thompson were all part of Wavy’s circle as was Bill Graham and a few other notables…so I figured I was in pretty good company. I’ve been back up to visit a few times and when I have I always run into someone I know from Lenox which is funny, …Just remember if anyone offers you chocolate chip cookies just say no..…anyways' after about 6 mo. there I learned all there was to learn about the Emerald Triangle and other unmentionable aspects to that long forgotten time and lifestyle and was getting a bit stir crazy (Laytonville is even smaller than Lenox and the music scene was…..even smaller) so I moved to Berkeley CA, and lived there for about a year, the music scene wasn’t quite happening there either at the time. From there I moved to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute. I finished I began my career as a professional musician (guitarist) moved around a lot (Glendale, CA, Santa Monica, CA, Venice, CA, Playa Del Rey, CA, North Hollywood, CA) and did a lot of session work eventually finding myself on some cd’s with people you may have actually heard of i.e. Sting, UB40, General Public, Taylor Dayne, Roseanne Cash, Parliament Funkadelic. Problem was this work didn’t pay very well so I had very little to show for it. I was briefly a member of the reconstituted British Reggae Ska group General Public who used to be known as The English Beat, ...Expand for more
that was fun, we even had Billy Idol open for us at the KROQ Acoustic XMAS show back in…oh ..I don’t know 93’ I think…the show was awesome it had the Cranberries, 4 Non Blondes, Porno for Pyros, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, Cowboy Junkies….I almost fainted onstage from hyperventilating…it was my first big rock show…..Eventually though I got fired for a better looking English bloke who actually knew how to play reggae music…from there I hooked up with a music group that would change my destiny…they were called Boxing Gandhis, we signed a record deal with Atlantic Records, a publishing deal with EMI, made a record, did a video, toured the world (we even played at SPAC) we made another record, toured some more, (we were in Oklahoma City the day of the bombings) I played with a bunch of cool musicians (Carole King, Hootie and The Blowfish, Dave Matthews Band) but again, I still had very little to show for it. Tough business… I met my wife after coming off tour with the DMB back in 97', we married shortly thereafter in a private ceremony up in Santa Barbara, CA, we had a baby girl Pilar now 7, We bought a house in 02' in Culver City, CA, had a second baby girl Soleil in 05'. I'm still making music with my own group Horace Godwink, and another group The Bectones (we were on the Jerry Lewis Telethon this year..you may have seen us..ha ha ha…for real !!) I run my own production company called Bijou Groove, we specialize in music for Film and Television. We've placed music in movies such as Blue Streak (Martin Lawrence) and Television (NBC's Providence) and a bunch of television commercials (Fedex, Zocor) but this doesn't pay all the bills so I'm also the C.O.O. of a Computer Consulting firm here in Los Angeles called Generation IX - We provide outsourced IT to firms such as 3Arts Entertainment) I’m a bona fide computer geek, can’t get enough…..music and computers….I guess I see the connection……
