Ernie's Story
Hello Wildcats!
After graduating from FSHS, I spent six years in the Navy and Naval Reserve. After that, I worked at two Southern California banks as Vice President of the SBA Department. It was interesting at first because I was learning about so many types of industries. But after ten years in the banking industry, I got bored. Every SBA loan package started to look the same, I was making the same presentations each week to the credit committee, making the trip to the local SBA office, and waiting six to eight weeks for an answer. So I left the financial services industry and took some classes in broadcast journalism.
One of my first stories got me hooked on my new career. I had to cover the Richard Nixon funeral in Yorba Linda, California. That was exciting! ...Expand for more
I knew I found the perfect career! I have not had a boring moment as a TV news anchor and reporter. But I soon found out that many news directors would rather have younger anchors and reporters. In order to look younger on my resume, I got another Bachelor's degree in 1995 and left my old one off my resume.
In between my careers in banking and broadcasting, I did take two years off and lived in Waldron, Arkansas on a 55-acre ranch. Anyone seen the movie, "City Slickers"? Yea, that was me. I did things I or anyone else would not have imagined me doing ... bailing hay, fixing barbed-wire fences, feeding cattle and of course, delivering a calf (It's gross!).
Anyway, I am still a broadcaster but I freelance for a few television outlets both foreign and domestic.
