Ernie's Story
Life
After spending four years in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1957 I didn't feel that there were that many career opportunities in the north eastern Connecticut area so we moved to southern California. We have never regretted the move except leaving most of our families on the east coast although some of my wife, Lily's family have also relocated out here. We have 3 children and 4 grand children. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in December 2004.
Workplace
I read a book back in the early 60s, I think it was "the Richist Man In Babylon was a Peddler" and I took it to heart and became a salesman.I was a wholesale salesman of Bread, Wine, and Liquor. Entered the insurance business in 69 and became a self employed District Mgr in 75. Retired in 2000 after building it from 5 miilion to over 50 million in premiums per year in 2000. have won over 225 races with both harness and thoroughbred horses. We breed, raise, and race both breeds from my trainers ranch in Northern CA. I fly a 260 Piper Comanche to get to some of the races as it saves time instead of driving a lot of hours. Although I list myself as retired I really am involved in other interests. I formed a development Co in 1975 and we built 3 tracts of large Prestigious homes back then. We now buy, sell, and manage our properties. We recenty purchased 20 acres in Casa Grande,AZ. that we will either develope or sell at a later date. We now own 4 properties in Southern California and 3 properties in Arizona.
Military
I spent 4 years in the USAF from May 1953 to May 1957. from basic training at Sampson AFB. Then on to Air Operations School at Keesler AFB. The next 3 1/2 years at Westover AFB with the 60th FIS which became the 337th FIS. I was the ncoic for the last 2 years of the Alert Center.
