Fan Shing's Story

I attended Park Public School, (now Nelson Mandela Park Public School) from junior kindergarten to almost the end of grade 2. I next attended Keele Street Public School all the way to grade 6. My grade 5 teacher was Mrs. Kopij and my grade 6 teacher was Miss Gibbs (now Mrs. Scala). I was on the basketball team and I remember a game at Swansea school. My final year was the first year of the newly built school. I went of field trips to Boyne River and to Ottawa to see the Parliament Buildings. I went to Runnymede Public School for grade 7 and grade 8. My grade 7 teacher was Miss Ross. I was on the track and field team in the 800m. I remember the grade 8 graduation dance with Led Zeppelin music playing in the gymnasium. I remember Nina Sosnowsky, Leslie Bannatyne, Andy Henye, Alec Amonsen, Janice Fowlston, Karin Wilhelm, Karin Mueller, Theresa Drag, Elizabeth Chapman, Joan Archibald, Rosemary, Tija Coules, Michael Grange, Lawrence Soo and many others. I moved and my first year in high school was in grade 9 at Eastdale Collegiate Institute. I took typing with Mr. Bristol, French with Mrs. Rudd, Math with Mr. Smith...Expand for more
and English with Miss Plummer. I passed all eight subjects and one night school in grade 11 accounting level 4 and my summer school subject was grade 11 accounting level 5 for a total of ten credits in my first year. I moved again and my second year of high school was at Bloor Collegiate Institute. I played on the Bloor Collegiate junior soccer team. The accounting teacher was Mrs Tanchak. She used to teach at Humberside Collegiate Institute before the 1982-1983 season at Bloor Collegiate. The math teacher was Mr. Robinson and the geography teacher was Miss Cameron before she got married. Mr. Nelson taught Industrial Arts, Mr. Leps taught gym and Mr. Lalla taught grade 10 English. Mr. Helmut Herrmann was the French teacher who left to teach at Humberside Collegiate Institute in 1987. Runnymede Jr. and Sr. Public School will be having an Open House and Fun Fair on Saturday May 28, 2016 from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm for the 100th Centennial Celebration. The administration and teachers will be planning an Open House to cater specifically for alumni. All former students, teachers and members of the community are welcome.
