Feridoon's Story
hey there,
after highschool, i went to UCI in 1987 where i studied English. after college, i wanted to go do volunteer work somewhere. through my church, i heard about a school in europe i could go to where i could learn an eastern european language and go do volunteer work. this was in august 1992. i had started to learn serbo-croation and had gone to serbia a few times to do some service projects. but, the war was on and it was difficult for me as an american to get a visa.
in december of '92, i met the pastor of a church in siegen, germany. they had a youth coffeebar they needed help managing. since serbia was not working out, i went to germany. i met my wife, petra, there at the church and we got married about a year later. i ended up doing volunteer work (for about $200 a month) with this church for about 4 years. the church met in the city's old...Expand for more
train station and i had an apartment in it. i was everything from the janitor to the plumber and ran the coffeebar 6 days a week.
after i stopped working (and living) at the church, i started getting into the internet and the boom of the late 90s. we ended up leaving siegen and moved to munich where i worked at different internet and multimedia agencies as well as a technology consultancy. after 5 years there, we moved to düsseldorf (because we were expecting our first child, lilli). both lilli and leyni were born in there.
i am now pushing 40 and have been married to petra for 13 years(!). we are now living in seattle (just got here from europe in july). i have been working at frog design for about 6 months now and am happy about the move.
