Life
Was in company 84,-20Feb64-5May64,would like to meet up with other members of the company.Jim Doyle,Jerry Smalls and I got stationed on the Independence,my first assignment there was with 1ST Division.One of the first jobs I had was standing bridge watches.At 17 I was steering a ship,1/4 mile long,that carried a 5,000 man crew and 125 aircraft.After two years I finally got assigned to the galley and bake shop where my real interest was.Later served on the Uss Entemedor SS 340,fleet boat submarine as a cook and baker,USNTC Bainbridge,MD,assigned Galley 502,at the Recruit Training Command for Women,worked in the general mess and bake shop.Later went to the Uss William H. the planes,steering a submarine, is like flying a plane under water!!After my 12 years in the Navy,with the skills I learned there,I have for the last 22 years operated my own country bakery in upstate NY.Plan to be semi-retired shortly,just bought a 28 acre parcel,with fruit trees,pond,with fish and a deer trail running through it.I spent 12 years seeing the world in the Navy.Before I go to the next lifetime,I plan to make a trip across the US and visit all the great shipmates I've met over the years.The native name for the land mass we live on is called"TURTLE ISLAND',in the creation stories of many of the native peoples,they tell of how we live on the back a large turtle.
