Frank's Story

Life Nickname - Phroggy (Froggy) Activities included ROTC Drill Team and Drama Graduated from Prairie View A&M with BA in Theatre and commission in US Army. Ended military career as a Major. Worked at Microsoft as a Premier Support Tech for Fortune 100 companies from 1995 - 2003. Currently working as an independent consultant, looking to start my own business. Family Married my college sweetheart Charlotte (Leviston) in 1983. The union lasted 14 years and produced 2 wonderful children, Jonathon Charles and LuVonia Katie. Remarried in 2003 to Joyce (Bowens). We became grandparents when Luvonia graced us with a little girl in 2007. School It was Great in '78. Some of my best memories in life are from the 4 years I spent at Bel Air. Most people remember me as 'Froggy' (though I spelled it Phroggy). My biggest interests were in Drama and ROTC Drill Team. I was warned that the two would conflict and didn't believe it until I had a Drill Meet and Speech Contest on the same weekend. From the Drama Department, I'll never forget Mrs. Jeanne Steele, Mr. Joe Barnes, Ms. Pat Cisneros and even Ms. Barbara Beeson. Mrs. Steele had the Drama classes and Mr. Barnes was the Speech teacher. Ms. Cisneros and Ms. Beeson both taught English, but were ususally very involved. Mr. Pat Eskew was the Music director for every musical we did. Plays I enjoyed: L'il Abner (Pappy Yokum), You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (Snoopy), Dino (Mr. Sheridan), She Stoops to Conquer (Tony Lumpkin), Of Winners, Losers and Games (Loser). I miss a lot of things about high school, but most importantly I miss one of the best friends I ever had. My confidant and Mime Partner, Kelly L. Townsend. ROTC was my other area of fond memories, especially the Senior Army Instructor, CW4 Royce G. Coffee and his cadre MSG Widener, SFC Cornelius Byrd, and CW3 Glover. Among them, I believe they turned out some of the best young men and women Bel Air had to offer, whether we persued military careers or not. Favorite Drill Meets: Odessa Invitational, New Mexico Military Institute Invitational, and the annual spring YISD Review and Drill competition which at that time consisted of Bel Air, Ysleta, Eastwood, Parkland and Riverside. Bel Air was usually favored and won each of these competitions, hands down! With these two major interests, it should come as no surprise that I graduated college with a Bachelors degree in Theatre and a commission in the US Army....but that's two other stories.... College Prairie View A&M from 1978 - 1982 Continued my love for ROTC and Theatre. Pledged the National Society of Pershing Rifles and worked extensively with the drill team. I will never forget instructors like MSG Charles Dunton, Sr and SFC Aubuchon, CPT Morris Price, COL Morgan, COL Pennywell, MAJ Williams and a host of others! d was Dr. Ted Shine. Accociate professor was Mr. Clarence L. Turner. Memorable shows include Pelleas et Melisande, The Cotton Club Revue, Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope (ACTF winner April 1982), Bury the Dead, The Wiz, Medea, To Be Young, Gifted and Black, Fame:A Mime and Dance Show, The Amen Corner. My area of expertise was in Lighting Design, though performance in shows was critical to success. My 'thesis' was a mime show that included several solo pieces and ended with a mime version of Peter and the Wolf. My 'troupe' did a great job! Thanks again to everyone who participated and made it a success! You know who you are! More to follow..... Update!!! July 16 2006 - Received Master of Business Administration Degree from University of Phoenix!....hmmm maybe I should go for the Doctorate!! Military Commissioned August 1982 from Prairie View A&M ROTC program. US Army Signal Corp....one of the most fascinating and quick paced branches in the Army. Started Active Duty in November '82 at Fort Gordon GA. Graduated Signal Officer Basic Course March '83. My first assignment was with B Co, 67th Signal Battalion as the Radio Access (UHF) Platoon Leader. Met my most unforgettable commander, CPT Richard Wiggins. After a 2 year tour with the 67th, I moved on to become the Executive Officer of B Co, 551st Signal Bn, where I picked up my interest in computers, databases and automated recordkeeping. Stayed with this unit long enough to serve as Company Commander, one of the last 'Lieutenant' Commanders on the post. I made Captain Dec 1986 and gave up command September of '87. From there it was the Signal Office Advanced course and then on to a tour with the 10 Engineer Bn (Combat) of 3rd ID in Kitzingen Germany. Two years later I was reassigned to 123d Signal Bn in Wurzburg as the Division Wire Officer. It was from here that I was selected to accompany the 51st Signal Bn, 93 Signal Bde of Ludwigsburg to Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia. I served the 51st as Bn Maintenance Officer and Field Ordering Officer. At the end of this 'trip to the desert', I returned to Germany to discover I had to find a job. Luckily it was time for me to rotate back to the states and I landed an assignment to the DSCSOC at Camp Roberts, California as Detachment Commander. This was a very interesting and challenging command. After 2 years, and courtesy of the RIF of 92, I left active duty in August of 1993 and joined the Reserves. After moving to Grand Prairie, Tx, my unit of assignment was 493rd Engineer Group in Dallas as the Group Signal Officer. Another interesting and challenging assignment, but fun overall, where I was promoted to Major in November of '94. One weekend a month and two weeks a year!? Don't you believe it!! I left the active reserves in September of '97 and now enjoy life as a total civilian!
