Frank's Story

Webb City was only one of the more than 20 schools that I attended. Prior schools were Granby, MO., Gabbs. NV, Doyle, CA. and on and on. Since I come and go and for only a short time, very few if any people remember me. In 1954, if you were in the production of Mississippi Melodies you might remember me as Huckleberry Finn. I on the other hand do remember some of my class mates but only the females. I wonder why? Mary (Gabby) Wright, Veetch Twins, Dixie Bates, unknown name (Sue)? Burris, Judy Meeslin, Tish Wiggins, and of course Marti Jones. I thought "Marti" was one of the most beautiful names I had ever heard and in 1965 gave my first daughter that name. I do remember that Marti played the flute and was an attractive brunette but at that age I thought she was out of my league. I spent two more years and 3 more schools in Missouri, then in 1956 went heading back to California. This time to the beautiful Sierra's. Three schools later I joined the Air Force to get some stability to my life. Married in Dec. 1959. son Frank in Dec. 1960, Michael Dec. 1962, Marti in May 1965 and Megan in Sept. 1972. Although most of the time between 1960 and 1972 I was in California I did spend 3 and 1/2 years of that time in various vacation spots like Guam, Thailand and Vietnam. The next three and a half years were in Biloxi, MS. as an instructor teaching Radar principles and Systems. Now for the great years 1976 thru 1981. I celebrated our Bi-Centennial in England by raising a few pints of great ale in a pub down the street from our house in Bury St. Edmund. I basically only went to the base when I had to as our fiends and social activities centered around Bury St. Edmund. Most every weekend we were gone to all those places I read about as a kid , but that was short lived and a year later we were on a ferry boat heading for Germany. Four glorious years of some of the most beautiful scenery you could imagine. My kids got to go to Berlin to participate in sporting events, Tunisia and Madrid for class trips and hang out on top of the Eiffel tower. When we came back to California in 1981, Megan couldn't remember the States as she was so young when she left and after a few months, was ready to go back. She has gone back to visit the south of France and in Sept will be joining me for a trip to Ireland. After a year back in the States and insulting a General (Don't ask) I got orders to go to Egypt to be an adviser to the Egyptian Air Force. So a...Expand for more
few months later I retired from the Air Force. I started going full time at Sacramento State to become a teacher. My major was Physics and was doing good but it was Calculus that killed me. For those of you that breezed through 3 semesters of Calculus as my oldest son did, my hats off to you. You deserve a standing ovation my greatest admiration. At the rate I was going it was going to take me an extra year of collage to complete my degree so I was going to change my major to something that didn't require calculus when I got a job offer working civil service that payed just as good as teaching and I didn't have to complete calculus. Seven years and one divorce later I'm selling my home in the Sierra's and taking off for Corpus Christi Tex. The Dot Com melt down and massive closures of Federal installations in California had made jobs for people in electronics and computers next to impossible to find. Two years later, job or no job, I'm heading back to the sierra's. If any of you out there know anything about the TV broadcasting industry then you might know the name GVG. Actually it's an acronym for Grass Vally Group. For the next Five years I had the best job I had ever had. I won't bore you with the details as you would need to be a nerd or computer junkie to appreciate. I held the job for about 4 more years but was not the same as they moved me around in the company and moved the job I loved overseas. Yes, I was outsourced. They finally outsourced to the point that there was no place for me to go but out. I could have taken a cut in pay and taken a lesser position but since I lived in Missouri for awhile as you know, I was to stubborn so retired for the third time. So now I spend my time traveling about with my Australian Shepard and trying to stay away from Generals to insult. I have a little three bedroom home in the lower foothills as I couldn't afford to live back in Grass Valley after the divorce. Moving 16 miles down the road saved me over $60.000. All my kids and most of my grandkids (I'll let you ponder about that one) are within 45 miles which means they keep me pretty broke. I hope that this has jogged some memories or maybe our paths have crossed somewhere around the world. Not Egypt! Here's an update to my story. Around 2008 I started see seeing my Ex Wife, left my house in Smartsville and moved back to Grass Valley. On Nov the 7th 2013 We got married again. We were married the first time on 7 Nov 1958.

Waiting for dinner.
This is the front of a "HERO'S" car. Incase you can't read the small print at the bottom of the plate, it reads FORMER POW. This is the car of my cousin Eugene, whom we just got back from visiting in Hannibal MO.
