Franka's Story

Bobby started this, the memories all came flooding back when I read his story and I told him that I would have to write what I remembered down too. Then... I was a transplant from Country Day drifting amidst two worlds, one from St. Mary's and the other from St. Patrick's. I remember feeling like an outsider my first day at school, sort of like I didn't have a turf, but in short order I met some really wonderful people on my first day. Elena Laurencia; my buddy, Karen Young, Alicia H., Claudia, Patricia, Vanessa, Sigrid, Sylvester, Marion, Bobby, Dougie, Richard B, Cecelia, Primrose, Teddy, Lisette R., Laura L., Yvette, Celia M., Marjorie, Oran, Marcia, Yvonne, Leroy, Shayne and my love, Ray. Gosh there are so many people that come to mind. I remember playing softball and volleyball with my girls Marion, Alicia, Patricia, and Sigrid. We had so much fun and we were pretty good too. Love the fact that Marion and Sylvester are still together, gives me hope in true love. I remember the boys playing basketball and soccer. I love going to games and cheering for our team. Remember Laura Llanos belting out a show stopping number at the assembly? What a beautiful voice she had. And shy Karen, boy could she sing too. We had a lot of talent in our class. I remember the school dances, I love the music from the 80's. We really worked up a sweat dancing. How did we have so much energy? I remember being a part of Pinky's dance group. Boy could that girl dance and choreograph some stuff. I saw her on the island after I went home for a visit and she was the same wonderful Pinky I remember, except she was a mom. I remember radical Mrs. Demond with the dreads who wanted us to love Black culture. Ms. Murphy's creative writing class. Watching films in history...Expand for more
like the Killing Fields and All the President's Men. And who can forget going to mass or taking Theology class from Bro. Richard? Remember our senior scavenger hunt?? What fun that was. I look back and I can still see all of your faces even if my memories have faded some. Recently my sister found a picture of me in my uniform, and I saw how innocent I looked and I remember what an innocent time it was. I still have my memory book from senior year with all your signatures and even some pictures. It is hard to believe that 20 years has passed so quickly. Now... After leaving high school, I traveled to Texas where I attended the University of Houston and earned my degree. Upon finishing school I went to work at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. I left to go to work at Compaq Computer Corp. as a Human Factors Engineer. I stayed there for 7 years and transitioned to many other positions within the company before leaving in 2000, the same year I earned my Masters degree. I went to work for American General the same year before leaving the company in 2002. I honed my skills in design and web development while at Compaq and AG and have been running my own company since, ReEmergence, LLC. On the personal side, I got married in 1992 to a wonderful man and the father of my twin boys. We were married for 16 years but he was tragically killed in a car accident on May 27, 2008. I know that life can throw you some curve balls but it is up to each of us how we respond. I have strong faith in God and I am very active in my church. I miss all of you, my classmates from St. Joes. I pray that life has been kind to you and you have each fulfilled your dreams. I hope that we can pull off this reunion so I can reconnect with as many of you as possible. God Bless!
