Fred's Story
Born & Raised in West Palm Beach, My moms family dating back to the 1800's in Palm Beach.
I was an "Air Force Brat", started elementary school in Holyoke, Mass, where Dad was stationed at Westover AFB. Returned to WPB mid-year during first grade, and remained on "The Hill" the following 11 years. Graduated PBHS in 1962.
Went to work immediately with AT&T Long Lines, until my retirement in 2003. During those years I spent lots of time out-of-town for work and further schooling; including serving in the Army 1966-68. Was stationed in Nha Trang, Vietnam '67 - '68. Was wounded once and awarded the Purple Heart and, later, The Bronze Star medal. The best thing that came from that experience is that I completely gave up hunting .. which , along with fishing, was one of my favorite childhood pastimes. I still enjoy fishing. I'm fortunate to have about 250 feet of deep-water canal frontage and catch Bass, Channel Catfish, and all kinds of Panfish from time-to-time.
I am married to a wonderful NY gal that I met 27 years ago .. Lucille (Lucy), was born and raised in Brooklyn (And has actually seen ...Expand for more
the Tree that grows there!)
My hobbies over the years have included Fishing, boating, snorkling, Flying, Amateur (Ham) Radio (KB4EYR), motorcycling. Right now I keep myself busy building and repairing computers, and tutoring others on usage.I build our own custom computers and proud to say I've never had a store bought computer in my life.
I have many wonderful memories of the years on the hill; and am also registered in the Central Elementary and Central Junior High communities. I had many youthful friendships and fond memories of everything from that era, includihg off-campus fun at The Hut, The Spinning Wheel, Pizios, Murphy's Drive-in,The dances at the Armory, Lake Worth Casino, The airport JC clubhouse, Teen Town and the WPB Recreation Dept Director, Mrs Rogers. Times seemed much simpler back then ... certainly much safer ... even though we were often bored senseless during the summers with "nothing to do".
I'm 65, now and would enjoy sharing and holding on to those memories a little while longer. I would be honored to hear from anyone who also cherishes those times.
