Fred's Story
Life
Left Lincoln with my wife, Julie, to teach in Liberty, MO, suburban Kansas City, in 1997. We were in Liberty 7 years, where Julie taught 1st grade and I taught Social Studies and Spanish, then became an assistant principal at Liberty HS. Julie started staying home when our son, Will, was born in 2002. In 2004 we decided to move to Spirit Lake, IA, where I took the HS principal job and we could be closer to Julie's family (in Sioux Falls, SD). At the same time we were expecting our 2nd child, Elsa, who was born in Jan 2005, and I was also diagnosed with lymphoma. So I started my new job and moved and did chemo ...Expand for more
at the same time! We were in SL for 2 years, then saw that the principal job was open at my former rival high school back in the KC,MO area... I got the job and we moved back to KC, where I now serve as the principal at Oak Park High School and continue to work on my EdD. via UNL. Will is now 5, in preschool, and Elsa will be 3 in January. Julie is the awesome mom she always has been! I don't own a Harley, but do have personalized Husker plates on my 2001 Nissan Altima: OPHSKR, for Oak Park Husker. I am also cancer-free for 3 years now, but have regular 3-month checkups with a hematologist-oncologist. It's all good!
