Approached the 2nd semester of my high school Sr. yr, with the intent of joining the Marines. Got a last minute scholarship to play some college football, at a military academy in Va.. Took them up on it, graduated. In the interim, received a notice to report for my Army physical...lol...go figure! Vietnam here I come (no deferment). Talk about your irony ! The USMC showed up at my Army physical, in Roanoke, Va. and told me; "you'll be drafted in the Corps"! (more Irony), so I waited and waited, only to find out, that they put us all in the December 69' lottery. Birth date pick was too high on the list and during the first 70' lottery, my BD was picked early and they told me I was too old (further Irony). Graduated from college in Tampa and taught school for awhile and did some coaching. Eventually went into law enforcement and retired in 2012, after serving the State of Fla. for 36 yrs. and TDY with the U.S. Marshals for 7. In between, was married for 18 yrs,(currently divorced) one daughter (a Cop......go figure!) and a beautiful woman. Got a gig serving as a part time adjunct, at two community colleges, in the Tampa area, at their Police Recruit Academies...Expand for more
