Gail's Story
MY LIFE or how my days seem to get away from me . . . ((updated 7/10/16):
Hi Everyone!
If you've been here before you know some things about me, but then again alot has happened since I left Berlin, see below. I hope you're all well and I'm delighted you've stopped by to visit . . . drop me a line if/when you get a chance as I'd enjoy hearing from you!
Here's what I've been up to:
* 1983
* Moved to Seattle's Eastside
* Was fortunate to be at home to raise my son & 2 nephews
* 1983-2000 - Family, building a home, traveling, custody battle for our 2 nephews
* 2000-01
* Separated & divorced from Steven Wood (why we moved to Seattle area)
* Bought BCCC home for myself as sanctuary
* Moved out of LOW marital home
* "Empty Nest" for awhile - no spouse, children or animals
* 2000-03 - Licking my wounds and healing
* 2003
* Trans Atlantic sailing cruise (Lisbon-St. Thomas) & met Steve Fleming from Athens, Georgia (yes, my previous husband's name was Steven)
* 2004 - Aug. sold LOW marital home
* 2006
* Jan. - Steve Fleming moved to Wa. to be closer to me
* Oct. - Steve proposed during a weekend in L.V.
* 2007
* June/July - My son, Mark Wood, moved back to Seattle area from Ct.
* Sept. - My son survived a suicide attempt
* 2008
* June - Steve & I were legally married in our back yard
* Aug.
* Lughnasagh, pronounced LOO nuh suh in Irish Gaelic - Steve & I were handfasted in Ireland where some 50 friends/relatives from the U.S., Can., Eng. & Ire. celebrated with us on a 5-day romp to share with everyone why we love Ireland so much
* Spent 2 wks. falling in love with Co. Donegal before a 2 wk. sailing cruise on the Med.
* Sept. - Returned to volunteer work on the Board of Trustees at our public hospital's non-profit foundation
* Nov. - Had Seattle reception at a local winery, which was fabulous (unfortunately, it lashed all night long & so we couldn't use the outdoors)
* Dec. - Hosted reception in Athens, Ga. for Steve's friends & our families, which was great fun with a Celtic band & lovely floral arrangements created by Steve's niece, Chris
* 2009
* May-July - IRELAND - Rented darling renovated famine-era cottage in west Co. Cork - loved it & the people I met as well as Pinklepurr, the resident cat
* L.V. to visit my nephew who works for Cirque du Soleil
* 2010
* Feb. - Hawaii with Steve and Martha & Bob Olbrych (knew them from Berlin)
* Summer - IRELAND for 6-8 wks. in Ireland at same cottage - Decided Co. Mayo is where we want to live
* 2011
* May - IRELAND - moved there where we overlook a lake, are surrounded by sheep & cows, wonderful people & a more simple life, which we LOVE
* Sept, - Savannah, Ga. for best friend's 50th birthday
* Oct. - ITALY (northwest region)
* 2012

mmunity
* Sold home I'd bought as sanctuary after divorce

* Lost a dear friend who died too early of dementia
* PARIS (never wanted to go, but now can't wait to return)
* 27 - My son, Mark (born David Aaron Swihart) committed suicide the night before his 38th birthday. I've worked very hard at healing from Mark's death, I'm doing really well, but beyond that there are no words.
* 2013
* May
* Eric Clapton in concert - Birmingham, England
* Northern Wales
* London ("Book of Mormon", Mark Knopfler at Royal Albert hall - incredible!)

* July - Treated dear friend's daughter to wkend in London while there doing graduate summer program
* Sept. - Martha & Bob Olbrych came to Ireland for 4 wks. (way too long)
* Sept. - Flew back to Berlin for 48 hrs. to attend BHS 45th anniversary (thanks a million, Cynthia Blackburn), which I'm so glad I did - it was the last time I got to see Lew Mirante & spend some quality time together, which I cherish to this day, and to see Bill(y) Guite though I didn't spend any time with him, which I regret even though we were in regular email contact anyways
* 2014
* July - Cousin Deirdre, from S.C. came for 4 wks.
* Oct. - Volunteered at Barretstown, formerly known as one of Paul Newma's Hole I the Wall Gang Camps - absolutely love doing this, but not confident I have the stamina for 4 days straight, basically 24/7 taking care of 7-12 yr. olds - exhausting!
* 2015
* May-June - Went on a mo.-long trip with Steve & 8 friends for my 65th birthday. Dubai, Kenya & Tanzania with 4 friends & then added 4 more friends for the final leg in Italy. Unfortunately, we had to send 1 couple home for bad behavior & another couple for medical (broken wrist in 3 places)
* Aug. - SCOTLAND for World Pipe Band Competition as well as dinner at Edinburgh Castle followed by Military Tattoo
* Sept. - Lost Billy Guite, which completely broke my heart. I'll miss Billy for the rest of my life yet know we'll reconnect at some point
* Nov. - Lost good friend of 29 yrs. who decided she could no longer e friends with me. It makes me truly sad, but it was her decision & I'm okay with it
* Dec. - Christmas/Solstice in Seattle
* 2016
* Not doing much so far this year, especially after last year's travels
* March - Surgery on wrist
* Trying to figure out whether or not to return to Seattle 24/7 or continue to live in Ireland
* June/July - Seattle
* Sept. - Hawaii for surprise 70th birthday (even before leaving I can't wait to get back home)
Life is much too short to let people & life pass you by so PLEASE keep in touch, drop me a line, and have a wonderful life - I know I am very blessed.
