Life I moved to Newman in 1965 my junior year. graduated in 1967 was drafted into the Army in 1968. Spent 8 weeks in basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington from there I went to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri for advanced training school as a combat engineer. Upon graduation from AIT i was sent to Ft. Bevoir, Virginia for training as a nuclear weapons specialist. Upon completion of this course I was sent to Germany, where I decided that the assignment was not for me. I re-enlisted for 3 years 1 of which was to be in Vietnam. I was assigned to the 11th Armored Cav. Regiment, 919th Engr. Co. 4th platoon. I earned the rank of seargent in combat on May 12th 1969 at Quon Loi and the 3rd highest award in the Army a Silver Star. I married Joy Tull, from Newman in Honolulu Haiwii in August of 1969. Upon my completion of 1 year in Vietnam I returned to the US and was assigned to Ft. Leonardwood as a Drill Seargent. Our first son was born there in 1970. I was released from the Army in Sept. 1971. We returned to Newman. We lived in Newman until 1972 when our second and last son was born. I worked at Procter & Gamble in Modesto from 1971 until 1991.
