Gary's Story

Life Gary graduated from Lincoln High in 1965. He played clarinet in the band for four years and was President of the band in his senior year. He was also chosen for Regional Band that year. Gary is a 1969 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, president of Kappa Sigma fraternity and an officer in Pershing Rifles. Recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate, he served 6 years in the Army where he was a paratrooper, a cavalry platoon leader, a tank company commander, a division G-3 staff officer, and finally a combined-arms tactics instructor at the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. His last promotion was to the rank of Captain, Regular Army. He has over 30 years experience in the financial service industry, having begun in 1975 as an agent with the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Hampton, Virginia. As a student of the industry, Gary graduated in late 2007 with an EJD (Executive Juris Doctor) from Concord Law School. He completed the Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS) program at the American College in 2000. Gary has obtained the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP(R)). He has also received the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations, the Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) designations, and the Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL) and the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designations. Additionally, he is a graduate of AMTC (Agency Management Training Course) and has attended numerous sessions of their daylong Graduate / Field Management Seminars. Gary has been an instructor for the Life Underwriters Training Council where he taught the Financial Planning Skills Course and the Business Insurance Course. As an Adjunct Faculty member for the College for Financial Planning (of Denver, Colorado), Gary has taught the Estate Planning Course (Part VI) and portions of the paraplanner course. He has also taught various CLU courses for The American College (of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania). Gary moved from Virginia to the Philadelphia area in 1986 as an assistant General Agent for Lincoln Financial Services. He moved to Wilmington (DE) in 1996 and was Assistant Vice President, Life Marketing for the AIG Life Insurance Companies (U.S.) before their merger in 2001 with American General. He was responsible for all aspects of Advanced Markets and Sales Support. Gary moved to Cornelius, North Carolina in early 2002 as the Content Development Manager for COSS Development Corporation, a software developer specializing in applications for the financial services industry. COSS was purchased in June 2008 by Internet Pipeline, Inc. (DBA iPipeleine). He is now a Product manager and primarily responsible for Advanced Sales, Needs Analysis, and is a Research Analyst. Gary is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He is also a member of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU). Gary relaxes by doing Qigong and Yang style T'ai Chi Chuan. As a beginner, he won a gold medal for his sword technique and a silver medal for his open style while at the 1994 International Wushu Championships in Orlando, Florida. Gary and his wife Marsha have visited China in 2005 and 2007. They've traveled to Beijing, Badaling, Xian, Lanzhou, Lhasa (Tibet), and Chengdu.
