Gary's Story
I really tried hard to remember something unusual or interesting, but came up with a blank. I guess I'm just an average, dull person. If you went to school with me, you already know what I did (good and bad) back then. So I'll just fill in what happened after that.
I worked part-time at Charlie Nice's North Park Grocery (on N. 29th St) and later at Weast Hardware (which was located about where Long John Silver's is now).
In 9/61 I enlisted in the US Army, and served continuously for 22 yr, 1 mo, and 10 days. I pretty much saw the world with 33 mo in Vietnam, 5 yr in Germany (Heidelberg), 4 yr in Korea, Ft Hood, TX (3 times), Ft Sam Houston (San Antonio), Fort Sill, OK (twice), Sandia Base, NM (Albuquerque), and Fort Leonard Wood, MO (twice). With this wide variety of assignments, I had side trips to Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Holland, Hawaii, Guam, and probably several other places that don't come to mind. I think I qualify as well-traveled.
Along the way I met and married my wife of 38 yr. And I don't know how or why she has put up with me all these years. When I get some wheels off the track, she beats me mercilessly until I make the necessary adjustments. She is my partner and friend.

the Army in 11/83. We were in MO at the time, but came to TX because it was warm here and we still knew people here from previous assignments. I immediately went to work for the Southland Corporation (read 7-Eleven), in their Management Training Program -- I eventually managed three stores here in Killeen. The owners at that time were VERY employee-friendly. But in the early 90's the owners of all the Japanese franchises bought the Company. They didn't cut the pay, but they reduced or eliminated all the off-payroll incentives (health, dental, profit sharing, ESOP, etc). Then my night man got shot 5 times in the face. I decided it was time to move on. I did.
I drove a taxi for 6 yr. Then I ran the Airport Shuttle and delivered air freight parcels until 10/03.
In that month, I went to my doctor about a leg problem I had. She never did anything for my legs, but, because I was purple, she knew I was oxygen-starved (COPD). She put me on 24/7oxygen, and I have been on a 25' leash ever since.
Don't let my problems depress you, because they don't depress me. We are all dying and NOBODY gets out alive. Life is the journey and is mainly controlled between your ears.
I would really love to hear from any/all of you.
