Gary's Story
After the great release I attended college. I attended Prairie View A&M University in Texas from 1985 to 1989, transferring to the University of Texas at Arlington for my final year. I graduated in August 1990 with a B.A. in Criminology & Criminal Justice. I joined the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department as a jailer in November 1990, becoming a certified peace officer in January 1993. I stayed with the county until 2003, having worked a variety of positions including fingerprint identification, grievance & disciplinary officer and criminal investigations. I took time off from law enforcement and corrections and tried other pursuits, but my calling was / is corrections & public safety. I returned to corrections in 2004 with a private corrections company, starting as a corrections officer and rising to ...Expand for more
lieutenant of corrections officers. I left that company in late 2007 and tried security for a while. I started with another private corrections company recently which is where I work currently. Never could stay away.
I got married in 2000, but we called it quits in 2002. Never really got around to filing the formal paperwork, but we are finally getting that done. No children yet.
Note: I am no longer "The Survivalist". That high school moniker was replaced in 1990 by "Inspector Gadget", which was given to me by the inmates in the county jail for my propensity to wear a lot of equipment.
I think I've changed over the years, but everyone still thinks I look close to what I did in high school. As you can see by the photo I am not the skinny beanpole I used to be, though I need to lose some weight.
