Gay's Story

Life I am still living in Spruce Grove, Alberta as I have for more than 30 years. My husband, Bill, and I celebrated our 43rd Anniversary this past July 8. Bill was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in October of 2013 and was off work until January of 2015 when he decided that he did not want to sit around and wait for his cancer to come back. He decided that a job at Walmart in Spruce Grove was something that he'd like to try and so has been there since. He has had the misfortune of getting "Chemo Brain" and so has had to relearn a lot of things, but seems to be doing well. Our son is living in Swan Hills and our daughter lives in Leduc. We have always had dogs and now we only have 1 little tiny American Eskimo that we rescued from the Humane Society and a very bossy and busy Yorkie that we bought from a store in Las Vegas 2 years ago. Our yorkie, Raelee, is always on the go and keeps me out of trouble. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. To relax, I mow the lawns. We live on 5 acres and mow about 4 of them. So, in the summer it is mowing the lawns and in the winter it is removing snow from the driveway and sidewalks. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have people, patience, and a good sense of humour to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I am retired from Global Edmonton, but we have a large house and so my work is never really done. As well, we have an RV and try to go at least 3 times a year for short little jaunts. We are planning a trip to the Okanagan in September before winter sets in here on the prairies. The on...Expand for more
e person from my past who I'd most like to see again is JoAnne Quiring, because we have corresponded over the years and still can "talk". We have 2 little American Eskimo dogs and love them to distraction. Until Mar. 2010 we also had a tiny little Yorkie that ran both Bill and I and our whole household. We are suckers for our little 4-legged children. Our 2 children have surprised us many times. Our son was hurt in 1996 and as we have watched in the past 15 years, most people would have given up. But, he just keeps going along, sometimes taking the "right" path and other times not. He has a neat sense of humour and although we do love him, we really like him as well. I work at Global Television in Edmonton and although the work is not hard, the "general public" keep me on my toes. I have taken 2 years of Psychology to keep my sanity and to understand why people are the way they are!! Can I understand them any better? NO, but I sure have fun trying!! My oldest friend is a lady who is the same age as I am. We met when my son was 9 months old and he is now 37 years. Although she lives about 11/2 hours from me we talk on the phone about every 2-3 months and it is like we still live next door. We don't even agree all of the time, but she always knows when to bring me back to reality and when to just listen. I would like to think that I do the same for her and that is why we are still friends after all of these years. We have seen each other through our parents deaths, children's marriages and break-ups, almost losing our son, almost losing her son and just life's little "joys". I can truthfully say that she is plain and simply wonderful!
