Geof's Story

NEW 2013 UPDATED EDITION - tweaked Jan. 2013 Graduated Gunston Jr. High in 1970, went to Wakefield in 1970-1971. During 1970, played in a band called SPACE MEAT with John Jennings and Greg Mayne. John has gone on to fame as Mary Chapin Carpenter's guitarist/band leader. In the summer of '71, went to Washington-Lee to take English for credit so I could graduate after eleventh. In 1971-1972, I was one of the lucky few hundred to attend the first year of an experimental satellite school called Woodlawn, and with the extra credit earned the previous summer, graduated high school after the one year at Woodlawn (11th grade). Moved to California in the fall of 1988, where I still reside on a beautiful rural hilltop in San Luis Obispo County. Single, no kids, never married but currently in a great relationship with a woman with whom I share a mutually-agreed upon attitude towards open, non-romantic beneficial adventures. On to the music: During the summer of '71, neighbor and friend Bobby Liebling and I co-founded a band called PENTAGRAM, which also wound up including Greg Mayne as well, along with guitarist Vincent McAllister and later briefly added someone who would become my best friend, Randy Palmer. The basic four-member line-up stayed together until 1976, but Bobby has kept the band going with different members to this day, and ironically, they are more popular than ever. s on two releases I wrote the liner notes for, First Daze Here and First Daze Here Too which are available at regular outlets like Amazon, etc. I was also heavily involved in a PENTAGRAM off-shoot during the 70s called BEDEMON, which was the name attached to Randy Palmer's project of recording mostly his songs at the PENTAGRAM rehearsal warehouse for his own enjoyment and collection; it wasn't an actual 'band' in the normal sense. We released them officially late 2005 as Child of Darkness: From the Original Master Tapes for which I also wrote massively long liner notes (and is also available from Amazon and elsewhere). In 2002, we re-grouped here at my place in California and recorded an all-new album but tragically, three months after the recording sessions of the basic backing tracks, Randy died from injuries in a car accident, and after a ten-year labor of love, BEDEMON's Symphony of Shadows was released in Aug. 2012 in Europe and Oct. 2012 in the US. Nine tracks and just under an hour's worth of Black Sabbath-like 70s original heavy metal, with a 24-page booklet containing lyrics, musician credits and --” again --” my massively-long liner notes detailing the album's tortured ten-year journey. It's available on Amazon, itunes etc. and the reviews have been fantastic. You can check it out on the official BEDEMON website site which is the band name, a dot and com at the end. It also has links to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
