George's Story

Life Hey there everyone...life's been pretty sketchy for a while now. As far as the band goes, the DVD has been out for 9 months and won at the Video Music Awards last month for best Heavy Metal DVD, the new album will be pushed back for release to October and I have also been working on an Iron Maiden Tribute album with a bunch of friends from the metal scene. I'm currently looking for other musicians in my side project, Beyond Fear, featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens of Judas Priest, Iced Earth (my band), and the subject of the Mark Wahlberg movie "Rock Star". On January 3rd, I got a call from my ex-wife's mom saying that my ex and our daughter was killed in a car accident in Kansas on Jan 2nd. I never even saw her when she was alive, and I had been looking for them for 4 1/2 years. Since this tragic accident, I have become involved with a group known as MADD (Musicians Against Drunk Driving) and have been spreading the word that drinking and driving is illegal and can kill. At work, I do consulting for Continental Airlines and they fly me to Houston twice a week to do so. I'm just trying to keep them afloat while all these other airlines are dying. It's funny to think that 84% of all air routes flown in this country are flown by bankrupt carriers. While in New York last year, I was invited to help organize a new airline that takes Premium First Class passengers from New York to London. It's called EOS Airlines, and go on and take a look at their site. They are doing good so far, and the first flight was on December 16 of last year. Drop me a line why dontcha! Workplace 1997 - 2001: Aside from two seperate summers playing around at Lagoon, From 1997 to 2000 I was employed by the greatest airline to ever ply the skies of this planet, TWA - Trans World Airlines. At first I was just a gate agent in Salt Lake, then I moved to St. Louis my senior year. While there, I was "accidentally" thrust from my internship as a ramp agent (loading bags), to being a consultant, due to a chance and accidental meeting with our CEO, who was also a pilot. I helped guide TWA through it's final years with dignity and a touch of class. When TWA was sold to American Airlines in February 2001...Expand for more
, it was with the promise that ALL TWA employees and operations would be folded into American, and the TWA history would live on. BOY was I wrong. When 9/11/01 came around, and the attacks happened, the airlines lost their footing. At American, they needed to lay off 22,500 employees. Funny, that's the exact amount of people American took from TWA. Not a single American worker was laid off. TWA came to stand for "Totally Wasted by American". 2001-2002: Took time off from working and went to Mountain West College and got my Associates in Travel/Tourism. 2002-2003: After graduation, I moved to Tempe, Arizona on behalf of America West Airlines, then just barely turning into the great airline they would be, led by the very capable 27 year old Doug Parker. I went to work as Vice President - Airbus Operations (meaning I handled everything involving our Airbus A319/A320 aircraft), then left when the first inklings of a merger idea with US Airways was going around the offices. I did not want to be a part of another loser merger. 2004-2005: Moved to New York in 2004 to start work on a new airline in planning, called EOS Airlines. It took me and several others, including the present management team 1 year and 10 months to get everything all hammered down and in place for the first flights to take place in December, 2005. EOS is now the No. 2 airline in the New York/JFK - London/Stansted market, behind Continental, using Boeing 757-200's outfitted instead of 228 seats in 2 classes, to a mere 48 seats in an all first-class setup, designed for the premium passenger. During 2004, I was also picked to join the heavy metal outfit Iced Earth. I haven't looked back since, although I tend to fly EOS at least once a month. 2006: I'm back in Utah now, doing operational and labor consulting for Continental Airlines, and I'm loving it. I'm still playing in Iced Earth, and trying to form my own band now, called Beyond Fear. Continental has me working twice a week for them, and they fly me down to Houston, TX when I have to work. My work life is going much better than I could have ever dreamed. I doubt anyone expected this lil' non-mormon boy from Utah to ever make it. *Laughs*
