George's Story
After graduation, I joined the US Navy. My four-year tour of duty included metalsmith school in San Diego, Ca., service on submarine tender, and an ice breaker. I was one year in Rota, Spain before transferring to the ice breaker for a tour to Antarctica. We ended up in Wellington, New Zealand. Upon discharge from the Navy, I returned to Springfield, Ma. After discharge from the Navy, I worked for 10 years in the consulting engineering field designing HVAC and plumbing systems in building construction. My time was equally divided between one office in Hartford, CT and one office in Agawam, Ma. During this time, I married Linda Abbott. We had two children(daughters). nded most classes together. (We were both ordained as ministers upon graduation.) My next move was to the Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Philadelphia, Pa. I was the assistant administrator of the Hempstead, L.I., NY. From there I became the administrator of the ARCs in Wilkes Barre, Pa.; Wilmington, De., Rochester, NY; Brooklyn, NY; Albany, NY and Bronx, NY. I also served for two years on our headquarters in Nyack, NY as the ARC Command Property Development officer for the Northeastern USA. While in Rochester, NY, I attended Roberts Wesleyan University evening division where I earned my BS and MS degrees in Management of Nonprofit Organizations. I retired in 2006 and moved to Newark, Delaware where our two daughters and their families live. We have two daughters and four grandchildren (1 girl and 3 boys).
