George's Story
Attended William Franz elementary school before moving to Lake View. Went to Beauregard Jr. High before entering Easton.
As a teenager, I was in the Civil Air Patrol Cadets New Orleans Airport Squadron. Also made two cruises in the Merchant Marine, one between Jr. and Sr. year in high school and the other right after graduation. Work as an Ordinary Seaman on a freighter was interesting and convinced my that going to college was a good idea.
Attended Georgia Tech for a year before gaining admittance to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point from which I graduated in 1964. I chose Infantry as my branch and became qualified as a Paratrooper and a Ranger. I did two tours in Vietnam...Expand for more
and was wounded once. I served a total of 30 years and retired as a Colonel.
Have not stopped working. After the Army I was in state government in Georgia for over six years. Have had my own consulting business since then.
Life is good.
2020 Update. Closed my business in 2019 and am now fully retired. Have been sheltering in place due to the Corona Virus. My career as a soldier has left me with some physical disabilities so I am vigilant with regard to this virus. Cancelled a spring trip to New Orleans and a Warren Easton reunion. Hope to return in Spring 2021 for a good po boy! Otherwise, Sherry (WE '63) and I are doing as well as can be expected here in Woodstock, Georgia.
