george's Story
hello my name is George woods,i attended western high school from 6/1973 to 6/ 1976 , I was the main percussionist,principle drummer in the concert band, I also was in ths jrotc I became a cadet major before I left western in june 1976. I was also in the drama club,directed by mr Prim.i was also in the deca club.Which allowed me to work part time with mich con downtown.I also graduated with honors I achieved a 3.0. It was,nt easy working part time staying involed in different activities.but it payed off.Just a week after graduating western high school and missing an oppurtunity to go Eastern Michigan University,I joined the United States Army for 3 years ,and was stationed in Germany with HHC 1st Bde , 1st Armored Division. I left the U.S.Army after serving 3 years.I came home back to Detroit June 1979 .I did Retail and Contract Security for different security companies for over 30 years.Ibecame disabled may 2009 and could no longer work.I have osteoarthritis in my right knee,which make my knee joints stiff and makes it difficult to walk.Being disabled doesn't keep me from enjoy...Expand for more
ing life. After having painfull knee joint problems,i had to go on medical leave,and eventually I had to stop working because of my disability.The most sad part of my life became a reality I could of never imagined,i became homeless and had no income and no place to call home.Bacause I am a honorably discharged vetern,i was able to stay at the Veterans center,for homeless veterans on Park street here in Detroit for almost a year.before getting an opportunity to move into a Apartment Building built for formally homeless veterans called the Piquette Square Apartment for formally homeless Veterans.I have been living in my new home since it was built this past june 6 marked 4 years since I been living here.I am so very gratefull and feel so blessed to have a new place to call my very own. Just in the last 2 years I finally received my Social Security Dissability after waiting 2 years to receive my disability income .I finally have myself together and can look forward to a more stress free life..But I need only one more blessing in my life .And that is a good women to make my life complete.
