Gerald's Story
Life
Well, I got a degree in Math from the University of Washington. I did computer programming for the phone company for over 15 years, then a couple of smaller companies before working at Microsoft for several years. I am currently taking some time away from formal work to spend time on some long-delayed personal projects.
Along the way I got married to Holly in 1976. We've been going at it happily for over 30 years now. We have two lovely daughters; Ariel was born in 1993 and Remy joined our little clan in 1998.
In the years BC (before children) Holly and I travelled to Europe several times. In 1996 we spent a week in Japan and for our 25th Anniversary we went to Tahiti! That was so much fun we did it for number 26 too. If only we could stick grandparents with the kids more often. But we have dragged the kids along to Hawaii quite often and we introduced them to international travel in 2006 with a trip to London and then the year-end holidays in Japan. Since then we've spent 10 days in Paris and did 2 weeks in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

mid-70s, I've been a steam locomotive fireman and I learned to fly. In fact, Holly and I have flown a Boeing 747-400 together!
I guess our latest "adventure" has been our adoption of retired racing greyhounds. Lilo joined our pack in October of 2002. She's a very sweet dog. Bo is our new little boy. He's just 2 and was injured in training and so has never raced. He's Ariel's dog and she is planning to take him with her when she goes to college. Se he'll be the first dog in the family to go to college. Our Toy Poodle doesn't really think much of the Greyhounds, but she'll tolerate them since she sleeps on the bed with people and the Greyhounds don't.
Workplace
After college I went to work selling camers and stereo equipment. I'm still using some of the equipment I bought at great employee prices. In 1974 I went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell (The Phone Company) and in 1975 started doing computer programming there. I worked there for 16 years and then moved on to the software development industry. In 1999 I left a small start up and started at Microsoft. I greatly enjoy my work, but I'd love to retire!
