Gerald's Story

Where have I lived? Why did I move? My first move from Salem, Oregon, was to (1) San Diego, California in August 1976. I had joined the US Marine Corps Reserves, and moved to San Diego, California to attend Marine Corps basic training. In November 1976, I moved to (2) Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to attend the Basic Engineer Equipment Mechanics Course with the Marine Corps. In March 1977, I moved back to (3) Salem, Oregon to my Marine Corps Reserve unit in Salem. Next I moved to Charleston, then Coos Bay, and then North Bend, Oregon, working various civilian jobs, before moving back to Salem, where I lived for a few months unemployed before joining the US Army. In November 1978, I moved to (4) Fort McClellan, Alabama to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Course with the Army. In March 1979, I moved to (5) Camp Humphreys, Korea where I worked as a Military Police security guard and an assistant wrecker operator for the Army. In July 1980, I moved to (6) Fort Sill, Oklahoma by way of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas where I attended the US Air Force Technical Training School Traffic Management and Accident Investigation Course, and I lived in Lawton, Oklahoma. I worked as a traffic accident investigator and an assistant patrol supervisor for the Army on Fort Sill. In September 1982, I moved to (7) Yongsan Army Garrison, Korea, where I worked as a traffic accident investigator, a squad leader, and Military Police Desk Sergeant for the Army, and I lived in Seoul. In September 1985, I moved to (8) Roseburg, Oregon by way of Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, where I attended the US Army Recruiting School. In January 1987, I moved to (9) Bad Kreuznach, Germany where I worked as a Military Police Desk Sergeant and a Physical Security Inspector after attending the Installation Security Course in Vilsek, Germany with the Army. I lived in Hackenheim, Germany, and government quarters in Bad Kreuznach. In March 1990, I moved to (10) Camp Red Cloud, Korea where I worked as a Physical Security Inspector for the Army, and I lived in Uijongbu. In May 1993, I moved to (11) Fort Hood, Texas where I worked as a Squad Leader and a Platoon Sergeant for the Army, and I lived in Killeen. In May 1996, I moved to (12) Yongsan Army Garrison, Korea by way of Camp Page, in Chunchon, Korea where I worked as a Physical Security Inspector with the Army. I worked as a Physical Security inspector on Yongsan Army Garrison with the Army, and I lived in Seoul. I retired from the Army in April 1998. After I retired I worked as a security/safety officer at the Dragon Hill Lodge in Yongsan, and as an Instructor for Central Texas College at Camp Jackson, Korea. I lived in three locations in Seoul, before moving to (13) Sublimity, Oregon in July 2000, where I was unemployed and looked for a job. I found a government civilian job working for the Army, and in February 2001, I moved to (14) Sierra Vista, Arizona, where I worked security for three different organizations in the Army on Fort Huachuca, before getting my current job working as a Special Agent for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) ¿ Federal Investigative Services Division (FISD), conducting security background investigations. I retired from government civil service in February 2021. Made a month long trip to Korea with my wife of 43 years, April-May 2023.
