Glenn's Story

Re-retired 2017 after 51 years of Naval service, 24 years active duty Regular Navy and 27 years civilian service. I sailed the world and found my Aussie RN bride! Thinking back, given today's world, maybe I should have taken that law scholarship at Ol' Miss and made beaucoup buckazoids... But then, I wouldn't have met Nurse Judi, graduated from the US Naval Academy, flown Navy jets nor seen the world as well as the sea. Go Navy, Beat Army Lands that I visited in Naval Service: Angola Aruba Australia Bahamas Bahrain Bermuda Brazil Columbia Cuba Denmark Djibouti Egypt England Ethiopia France Germany Hong Kong Iran Italy Ivory Coast Jamaica Japan Jordan Kenya Majorca Mauritius Mexico Midway Island Minorca Monaco Panama Pakistan Philippines Puerto Rico Saudi Arabia Singapore South Africa Spain Trinidad & Tobago United Arab Emirates Vietnam Virgin Islands Wake Island Yemen Waters I have sailed: Adriatic Sea Arabian Sea Artic Ocean Baltic Sea Carribean Sea English Chanel Gulf of Aden Gulf of Aqaba Gulf of Mexico Gulf of Oman Gulf of Sidra Gulf of Tonkin Indian Ocean Ionian Sea Mediterranean Sea North Atlantic Ocean North Sea Pacific Ocean Persian Gulf Red Sea South Atlantic Ocean South China Sea Yellow Sea Golden Shellback Lat 0.00 / Long 0.00 & Artic Bluenose Navy Active Duty Jobs I've Had: 44ft Yawl Sailing Instructor - USNA Base Security Officer - Naval Air Station Meridian MS Gunnery/Missile Officer, CIC Officer, Navigator - USS Elmer Montgomery DE-1082 Atlantic Fleet Mobile Combat Systems Training Team Commander Plank Owning CIC Officer - USS Mississippi CGN-40 Chief Engineer - USS Blandy DD-943 Operations Officer - USS Farragut DDG-37 Operational Test Director for Tomahawk & Harpoon Cruise Missiles - OPTEVFOR Navy Weapon Systems Training Program Manager - Chief of Naval Education and Training Navy Combat Systems Training Branch Head - Chief of Naval Education and Training Navy Civilian Jobs I've Had: Senior Training Systems Engineer - NETSAFA Adjunct Professor - Math & Computer Science - PSC Head of Computer Science Department - Saudi Arabian Naval Academy Senior Software Systems Engineer - NAVSEA DDG-51 Project Instructional Systems Design Supervisor - Training Air Wing Six Assistant Director of Training - Training Air Wing Six Curriculum and Instruction Standardization Officer - Navy Recruiting Command Director of Learning - Navy Recruiting Command Formal ...Expand for more
Education Degrees: BS in Naval Science (Engineering) U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) MS in Systems Management Viterbi School of Engineering University of Southern California (USC) EdS in Curriculum and Instruction School of Education University of West Florida (UWF) EdD (ABD) in Instructional Technology School of Education University of West Florida (UWF) BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! Got a lot of T Shirts BEAT ARMY! PS: Did you ever wonder why I never dated nor had a steady girlfriend at Andover? It wasn't that I didn't want to; I was putting maximum effort in trying for one of the 200 competitive non-political Secretary of the Navy appointments to the U. S. Naval Academy. I set that goal when I was in Ferndale Elementary School and never waivered. It was a matter of time management at the cost of normal teenage social life, In addition to all of the school activities listed under my yearbook photo I was also active in the Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout), Sea Scouts (Ship's Boatswain), racing Lightning Class sailboats, and weekend gigs playing saxaphone with Johnny Soul and The Manchesters. Just NO time for dating and girlfriends if I was going to have a chance to successfully compete for the SECNAV appointment in the criteria for scholastics, sports, leadership, community service and extracurricular activities. Well, it paid off! But at the cost of normal teenager social life. Competing with over 60,000 qualifying applicants, I won one of the 200 coveted SECNAV nonpolitical appointments to the USNA Class of 1970. After completing Plebe year, when Midshipmen were permitted to date and have girlfriends, I finally made up for lost time. Never missed a Brigade dance or function without a very attractive date, including a few Linthicum and Glen Burnie girls - it was good to be a local. Even had my first "Steady" - a stunning Annapolis girl - during my last two years at USNA. So I never went without a date or a girlfriend from then on, that is until a blistering hot day in the sands of Saudi Arabia when I unexpectantly came across a beautiful Australian Registered Nurse wrapped in her black abaya. I had finally found my soulmate, the love of my life, and we have become an inseparable married couple AFTER she first pulled a knife on me that first day and said "YOU stay away from me!" (I mean, she is Australian) !! But I was smitten and could NOT stay away. But that's another story....
