Grant's Story
After a year in science at UBC I dropped out and got into computer programming. Worked in Vancouver for 7 years then moved to Toronto. After a couple of years there I met a young Quebecoise (I was still young at that point :o) and moved to Montreal. Despite the useless French they taught us I became bilingual (far from faultless and with an accent that you can cut with a knife).
Montreal is my city now, although I always enjoy returning to Nanaimo.
Continued in programming for awhile then held several other kinds of jobs (by choice not necessity) then returned to college at 59 to renew my computer skills. Now I work with Macs.
Married only once (I was young and foolish) no children, and 3 years ago met the woman of my life... for this period of my life. Have visited Europe a couple of times, Cuba several times and lived briefly in New York.
I have maintained my ideals and confidence that the world can be changed.
I have been kept busy doing renovations, first on a duplex that I bought with a friend in the north of Montreal (almost on the river) that dates from 1895, then a house in Laval (just across the river on the north of Montreal) that I bought with Suzanne. This one dates from about 1943 and needed major renovations.
Retired in 2012 and finally completed the renovations to our house.
In 2013 Suzanne and I went to Europe for the Venice Biennale ( an important in...Expand for more
ternational contemporary art event,
Suzanne is an art historian ), to get there we took a freighter from Philadelphia to Montoir in France (then flew home).
There is a blog about our trip on blogspot dot ca under the name gseurope2013
Variety being one of life's spices, in 2014 we bought a truck camper (which I renovated during the Spring) and a pickup and toured upper New York state and eastern Ontario (visiting a couple of historic race tracks on the way). Suzanne is still working so we are limited to 4 weeks vacation.
For the Summer of 2015 we were thinking of heading out west... But a friend of hers offered us his condo in Tucson AZ, so we are going to spend 3 weeks there after a couple of days in Chicago. I will be flying out to Nanaimo for our reunion than joining Suzanne in Chicago, then Amtrak to Tucson. We enjoy train travel, in 2010 we were out to the west coast - flying to Edmonton and then the train from there to Vancouver. Much more fun to travel throught the rockies (and the rest of BC) than flying over!
To keep me from getting bored I now have 2 old Porsches that need regular attention and TLC, a 1987 924S and a 928 from 1978. Currently the 928 is in my garage awaiting some work and I am driving the 924S (but not the winter...).
I also do odd jobs to help pay for the parts for the Porsches... The summer of 2014 I did major renovations at a friends house.
