Greg's Story

Life Where to begin? I have a son (6/27/91) and a daughter (11/25/84), married Cindi 8/26/78. I graduated from Lexington Theological Seminary in May 2008, have completed my ordination exams, and have my own church in Summersville West Virginia; Summersville Presbyterian. I have been working with the homeless and near homeless for years now, and had a very, very moving experience that could definately be considered a Call!!! It seems as if the jigsaw puzzle of my life over the last 35 years is now coming together in a rather stunning and I might add, scarry manner! This is something that has been in the back of my mind for many, many years now, and I've always dismissed it believing I was not capable. An event occured that drastically changed all of that, and the small nagging little voice with the irritating brush on the back of my neck has turned into a smack up side the head!!! I figure I've got about 20 good years in me!!! I no longer wear glasses, had Lasik about 9 years ago, now I have 20/20 in my right eye and 20/15 in my left eye. Best gift I ever gave to myself. I am a black belt in TaeKwonDo and assisted in teaching classes to beginners. Life has also dealt me a rather unusual hand. It seems at the age of 19 or so, I broke my neck in three places while in college (BGSU). This was terribly misdiagnosed!!! It has come back to bite me all these years later. After going to doctors, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and the like, I was really unhappy with their diagnosis of major surgery, and potent...Expand for more
ial disability. I took the advice of my Japanese neurosurgeon who suggested another non-invasive alternative to getting sliced open. He told me to try this for a few months, and see if it worked, it may sound a bit far fetched, but it worked for me. He told me to get rid of my shoes that had any sort of heel, to walk barefoot as much as possible, and walk as much as possible in that barefoot state! You know what? It worked! I have little pain any longer. He said something about humans relying too much on footwear, that the heel in most shoes was too much, and that this small amount of change just might help me out! So here I am, walking to work and back sans shoes, preaching from the pulpit barefoot, wearing thin no heel moccasins when I must wear something. This has led to some interesting experiences down life's path! My podiatrist thought this was just too wacky and that I'd do some real damage...he was wrong, and now years into this lifestyle, has to admit I have developed muscles that seem to atrophy in the mainly shod population. He now wholeheartedly supports this suggestion. I have done much, visited many, and backpacked over 1000 miles in this unshod state! Don't knock it until you research it, you just might find out there are many myths that I seem to have debunked in the years that I've done this. If you are interested, contact me. Thanks for being an important part of my past, and the memories I cherish. Please feel free to contact me, I'd love to hear from anyone from my past.
