Greg's Story
My name is Gregory Alan Wade, but I prefer to be called by my nickname "Bubba". I was born at approximately 5pm April 8, 1958 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Brawley, California. The eldest of Jack and Patsy K. Wade's 4 children, that included brothers Michael Ray and Jack Garth as well a sister Terri Kay. Raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints AKA the Mormons; I am ordained an Elder in the Melkezidik Priesthood and even though my testimony remained strong regarding the teachings of the church, until recently I had been inactive in my attendance since the late1980's.
I grew up and attended school in and around San Diego County, California, with a brief time going to school in Alberta Canada while in second grade. I was an average student who did quite well at playing football. During my senior year I was featured in several local newspapers at Southwest High School for my football achievements.
In November 1977 I married Catherine Lee Williams which ended in divorce in 1987, although the marriage ultimately ended, I have two beautiful children and three grandchildren. I could not imagine life without daughter Amanda Lee born August 4, 1978, son Joshua Alan March 18, 1980, grandsons Riley Marcus Austin Wade Dever (What a mouthful, huh?), May 23, 1996, Noah James Huson, May 27, 2005, and granddaughter McKenna Lee Huson, April 14, 2007.
My friends would say that despite my intimidating (Outlaw Biker) outward appearance, I am a "Big Teddy Bear" with a great sense of humor and healthy outlook on life. I am someone that takes lifes pitfalls in stride and I don't consider the mistakes I have made to be a necessary evil. I try to do all I can to help people less fortunate than me. Life has taught me it's not the things you have that make life worth living, but what you do with the things you have to help your family, friends, and others that counts in the end.
My favorite place to take someone special or friends that visited in the past was "Whale Fat Follies", at the "Fly by Night Club" in Spenard. No longer open Mr. White Keys and band of merry characters provided an evening of laughs and song and are missed by all.
My favorite activity would be riding my 1984 FXWG Harley Davidson, broke down right now, typical, through the beautiful landscapes of this great state, Alaska, nothing compares. I love living here and could not imagine a more beautiful place on earth.
I have worked and lived in several places. My enlistment in the USAF as a Security Policeman took me to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas and Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana. I attended Miramar Police Academy (832 P.C.) as a State Humane Officer for the San Diego SPCA. to Silverdale, Washington, where I worked for Pan Am World Services at the Submarine Base Bangor as SUB-BASE Police. I quickly became bored with handing out traffic tickets and responding to false alarms so I got a job at Bremerton Concrete as a welder. Boy did I BS my way into that job! I had never welded before and by checking a book out from a library I became the primary welder repairing and fabricating equipment. Bored again, I left there to work full-time as a Bounty Hunter for Anytime, Arnold's and Pioneer Bail Bonds in Port Orchard and Tacoma, Washington. Wow! This job was far from boring. I had many interesting and sometimes hair rising times seeking fugitives on the run.
After my father's death in September 1991 and years of being shot at, beat with pipes and chairs, or stabbed I decided to try something tame like commercial long line and crab fishing in Alaska where I worked on several boats. On my time off I worked as a deckhand/cook for Arctic Tug and Barge and several other various jobs to include starting my own business selling roses in the local bars (slogan given me by "Monty" of the Anchorage "Hells Angels" was "Buy a Rose from Bubba or he'll kill ya!"). After several fun filled and most of the time money making years in 1994 I had enough money put aside, that I decided to try going another adventure of working for myself. So, I bought my first of three tow trucks and started Red Baron Towing. I later changed the name to Alpine Towing, because alphabetically I would have a better chance at being called out first.
I had a great time and put in a lot of hard work and long hours building my business. After surviving a dreadful family crisis and losing everything but my FXWG Harley Davidson I just laid around for the last year. Thanks to my 92 year old landlord, her belief in me, and her generosity in paying my tuition, I earned a Certified Computer Aided Drafting Associates Certificate through Charter College in September of 2006. As I love to draw, Drafting seemed a good fit. Upon graduation I found employment as a Photogrammetric Technician for Aero Metric Inc., where I happily remained for 3 years. Unfortunately August 31, 2009 was to be my last day with a company I had truly enjoyed working for and fellow employees I had come to love as family. I have sent out literally hundreds of resumes and have had only a hand full of interviews since.
Well, as I have had no luck gaining employment and unemployment will soon run out. I decided further education could only be helpful, for my sanity if nothing else. So I enrolled in the Architectural and Engineering Technology (AAS) programs.ÂNow God willing, this will be the start of a new challenging adventure and successful career thereafter. By all means it has been an interesting ride so far.
