Gretchen's Story
Life
Until 2000, my wonderful dog, Parker, was my roommate (& baby). He was incredible and definitely human. I had several "custody battles" for Parker -- everyone loved him and wanted him for their own. He starred in my commercials & films, loved to hike, & only responded to commands in complete sentences.
I married my husband, Martin in 2000 after meeting playing rugby in New York City.
In 2000, we moved to England. Parker came via a French "passport" to avoid quarantine!
In July, we gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Charlotte Louise (Lottie). She is a tremendous blessing. I am still teaching a few directing classes, but have put directing shows on hold for my greatest directing project!
Lottie is alert, inquisitive & has an infectious giggle. She loves to yank Mommy's braids, steal my glasses, ride on Daddy's shoulders, and (of course) nibble her own toes. She is a delight and the best thing that ever happened to us. I love being a mom.
Sadly, in January, Parker died. He was The Best dog (& really more human than dog). We are so glad we have our dear Lottie.
College
I w...Expand for more
ent to Messiah College in Grantham, PA where I became interested in theatre. After 3 years, the college & town seemed too small, so I jetted off to Oxford University where I learned to row & play rugby.
I, then went to VCU for my MFA in Theatre.
Workplace
After receiving my MFA, I took a job w/ a film company and quickly became Executaive Producer and their 2nd Director. My dog, Parker, received many feature roles in my commercials!
Then, I got a job offer as Asst. Prof of Theatrical Arts at my alma mater, Messiah College. So, Parker & I packed up and moved to PA for 3 years of shows & college kids.
Then, we moved to NYC to direct & act. In NYC, I started playing rugby again with the Village Lions -- a men's team let me play w/ them, since I couldn't find a women's team. And, there, I met my now husband, Martin. (Today, Village Lions having thriving Men's & Women's sides).
After marrying, we moved to London, where I took a job as Head of Performing Arts at Amersham & Wycombe College.
Now, we are back in NYC. I primarily teach Directing at School of Visual Arts & St. Francis College.
