Gus's Story

Factoids:- I happened to run into this site by accident. Normally, I don¿t give information to face books or anything like that, but since it was Waterloo with all these nice people, how could I resist! I met some super people in Waterloo, but unfortunately, I've lost touch with them all. It's been a long time. Actually, I'm pretty dull really, so this isn't going to be particularly exciting to read. Originally from a sheep farm in the Scottish Highlands, I spent 5 years in Glasgow doing microbiology, moved to Canada and worked in Hospitals for a few years. Worked for about a couple of years in an Ag. College, did a spell in Waterloo, and then switched to industrial chemistry. wn now. At one time it had all kinds of factories, tool & die shops, machine shops etc. Now, so much of that's gone. That's so common throughout Ontario, of course. After this I spent six years in North Detroit. After some more time in Ontario, I moved to mainland China (Guangzhou). I've been here a bit over four years now working for a German chemical company. China is an interesting place. On the whole, the people are great; the language is beyond challenging and the food can, at times, be equally challenging. If you've read this far, congratulations! Interests: sailing (Grampian 26), photography, people. Music: folk, roots, concert, blues and jazz. If anyone wants to share music files, I'd be glad to. If you are visiting China, or are interested in it, please contact me. (I'm very slow at answering e-mail) Favorite quote: and this is a recent one from a friend of mine. "I often feel homesick, but I don't know where home is any more" It summed up the situation for so many expats. Good luck to you all. Gus
