Guy's Story

Hey...thanks for stopping by. I worked for Elgin Electronics for a few years as my first electronics job. Time there was well spent as I learned a variety of technolgies from Power Supplies for mainframe computers to the delicate items made for Western Electric. One of our contracts involved building speciality equipment for AO Smith in Erie, which I found to be most interesting. One friend that I met at Erie Institute of Technology worked at AO Smith together with several people from Corry. They all said "it's a great place to work." I decided to join them in 1976. Shortly after joining them, the company was sold to Geosource (a Houston based company). About a year later, they announced that all electronics would be moving and I decided to make the big move to Corpus Christi, TX. I was one of only a few folks that actually made the move and it was a great career move for me. At the time I spent most of my time engineering custom discrete instruments used to measure and compensate oil. At the time, oil was $20 a barrel. In many cases the instruments were sold to our own "systems" group which eventually led me into the world of Systems Engineering. I eventually was drafted to be the manager of electrical engineering. This work included a number of major projects including some of the very largest oil terminals in the world. I have given white papers at the International School of Hydrocarbons (University of Oklahoma - Norman), a regular speaker at the Petroleum Extension of University of Texas on advanced elect...Expand for more
ronics and was twice a guest speaker at Aramco Oil Symposium in Saudi Arabia. Later I also managed the internal IT department and Software Development. As computers progressed to the point of the PC, we had to suddenly interface PC's to the oil systems. This forced me to become very proficient with PC's and networks early on. After the company was sold a few times, I decided that it was time to move on. In 1997 I joined an Equity Investment firm in Houston, which was owned by two former board of directors at Geosource. I changed careers leaving the electrical engineering arena and now have a focus on IT. Currently I am the Director of IT and am permanently stationed at a large forging company in Houston. We currently have 16 locations networked together in the US and two locations in China. We have 5 axis CNC machines, Robots, HD Video Conferencing, etc. It's a very high tech place. On a personal note, I have been a Corvette enthusiast for 20 years having owned & restored several vettes from a 1957 fuelie to ZR-1's with the engine design by Lotus. Our yearbook says that in 20 years that I'd still be "learning how to ride my motorcycle" which is probably quite true. I had a knee replacement last year and had to stop riding until I had the knee strength back. When I moved to Corpus Christi, I bought a Honda V65 Sabre since I could ride year-round. Now I have a 502 Boss Hoss and a Harley. My kids are the 4 legged kind: a Komondor (white dreadlock Hungarian Livestock Guardians) and two Afghan hounds. Sincerely,
