Hal Hart:  

Life Born April 7, 1945, in Salt Lake City, UT. Moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1946 and to Valparaiso, IN, in 1951. Graduated Valpo High in 1963. College degrees in 1967 (Carleton College, BA Math) & 1969 (Purdue, MS CS), staying on 5 years working on unfinished PhD & as part-time CS instructor. Grad student in Applied Math at Brown 1967-68, falling in love with Computer Sciences and having to trasfer to Purdue. Married fellow Purdue CS grad student Ruth Mazur in 1969. We still look back on those near-impoverished years as among "the best years of our life." Worked 1974-2005 (2 years in Dayton, OH, 29 in Redondo Beach, CA) as Computer Scientist/Software Engineer for TRW (acquired by Northrop-Grumman in 2002), evolving into a "Software Process Engineer" -- an always-interesting, always-changing career of technology entrepenourship, approx. 200 travel boondoggles (about 10 to Eur. in the 1990's), terms as Chair & other posts in internat. professional societies, training, ... Had daughters Erika in 1978 (Brown, CS, 2001 -- falling in love with CS in 1997 from same man who turned me on exactly 30 years earlier, Andy van Dam) and Alison in 1981 (WashU St.L, Bio, 2004).
