Harold's Story
My parents moved the family to NW Arkansas when I graduated fro FWJH in 1962, but my heart has always been in the Flowing Wells District. NW Arkansas at that time was primitive, but I think my dad moved us there to get me away from the city and influences of the 60s. It was a big emotional hit for me. Just being away from the ASDM and Hal Gras was a cruel blow. I missed Tucson terribly.
I've moved around a lot over the years. I've been in NW Arkansas now since 1992 when I was corporate downsized from IBM Corporation in Dallas. I was able to visit Tucson in 2006 and my heart is still there even though I am not. I'd like to move back, but jobs in my field are few and far ...Expand for more
between. Unfortunately, I just cannot afford at the moment.
On my visit I toured the FWSD offices and walked around. When I was last there it was Iola Frans Elementary and that's where I went to the 5th and 6th grades. And, I still have vivid memories of FWJH to this day. I set up a "community" for FWHS Class of 66 so I could see who was still around.
In 1994 I received a masters in adult education from the University of Arkansas and I have been teaching here in Arkansas ever since. I work with people preparing to take the GED as well as teaching English As A Second Language (ESL).
