Heather's Story

In high school I wanted to grow up to be a teacher, wife, and mother, in that particular order. After Coyle I went to BSC, majored in psychology and minored in health promotion. I was in involved in the Big Sister Big Brother group on campus, an intern with the college police department, and an RA (for 2 1/2 fabulous years and I loved every second of the single style college residence room). I was in both the psychology and health education honor societies and graduated with honors. Well, after college I taught toddlers for a while and loved it. I also got back together with a great guy I had dated few years back who had oh so politely given me the "I think you'll find someone that you have more in common with at your college and someone closer to your age." Of course, I didn't and was still single. Scott heard I was still single from a mutual friend, called me up after about four years of still hanging on to my cell phone number, and we were back together just like that. Soon the commute to the children's center with my fabulous job with toddlers was too far. So I tried teaching preschool at a center closer to home. I bought condo with Scott in the summer of 2006. I returned to college part time nigths, weekends, and online, on a state grant for current educators to work on a degree in early education and care. (It's going oh-so-slow and I still have many part time semester left.) A couple weeks after getting settled into the condo, my car was totaled in a car accident on 44 when someone pulled out in front of me to make a left hand turn. It was completely their fault and I was left with no car and serious pain. A catscan showed that the accident had triggered pain in some degeneratve disc disease that I didn't even know I hadin my upper back and lower neck. Essentially, I had had arthritis developng for some time, but never felt strong pain from it until the accident. I wasn't seriously hurt, but ...Expand for more
the pain, though now dull, never really goes away and probably never will. A couple weeks after that, we got a chihuahua puppy, Gizmo, a housewarming present from my step-mother and father. We got engaged on Christmas of 2006 and started planning a December 2007 wedding. We were happily married at Lake Pearl Luciano's in Wrentham in a winter and holiday themed wedding with 110 of our family members and best friends. We honeymooned in Vegas. Then after two years of a very stressful work environment teaching preschool, which had nothing to do with the children, and everything to do with the workings of the center, I decided to find a new job. I needed a better schedule, more money (who doesn't?), more independence, and more freedom to be creative, all while still working with children. I decided to become a nanny. Sure, people look at me like I'm crazy and wonder why I even went to college to just be a "babysitter." But the truth is, the Boston agency that I went through required tremendous years of experiences with children of all ages, life saving certifications, physical examinations, a college degree, background checks, driving history checks, 6 person and professional written reccomendations, essays, and more. Not just anyone can be a nanny with their agency. I was lucky enough to be accepted right away and found the perfect family of four children ages 1, 3, 4, and 6 within a couple weeks. I love my job more than an other job I've ever had. I consider myself to be somewhat of a private preschool tutor an recreation coordinator. :) I also work part time instructing classes, running the front desk and hosting birthday parties at The Little Gym. In the next few years the hubby and I plan to sell the condo, buy a house, start a family, get anther chihuahua, finish my degree, let him start his degree... um, yeah, I think that's all we have plans for right now, although not necessarily in that particular order.
