Heather's Story
Life
I have a cat, Dorothy Jane. She and I are doing quite well. I'm happy and content. I teach in a correctional facility in Oregon and love my job! Let what you do be what you love. Oh, and I can start Dance Party USA anywhere I go...yes, I'm that talented. :)
School
I went to Lincrest Elementary (Go Lions!) after pre-school at some church in Yuba City. Then I went to Andros Karperos Middle School for 2 years, where we started out at the church b/c the school wasn't built yet. Remember marching to AK's campus? I remember having class in the entryway to the church. Crazy! My parents MADE me attend Faith Christian High School for my 8th grade year, which I hated. I got to choose where I went to high school, and immediately picked Yuba City High School and brought Jana Evans (from FCHS) w/ me. I'm proud to be a Honker alum! Go brown and gold!
College
I went to Oregon State Univ. and was on the five year plan. GO BEAVS! I was in a sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a Writing minor. I loved college and now have football season tickets...there's nothing better than tailgating in the rain. I went to ...Expand for more
Willamette Univ. in the fall of 2001 and earned my Masters of Arts in Teaching. I got my teaching license endorsed in elementary and early childhood education. I graduated in May of 2002.
Workplace
I was working in Portland for the YMCA's Before/After School Childcare programs in SE, NE, and Mt. Hood divisions. I didn't like the split shift and low pay, but loved the chit'lens and my cool co-workers. I became a substitute teacher, got my name out, learned a lot, and made LOTS of money. Plus, if I didn't want to go to work, I didn't have to take a teaching job that day. Rock on, eh?! In October of 2004, I started my teaching career at a high school in a correctional facility in Salem, Oregon. I taught Composition, Journal Editing, and English and LOVED it. My students are very inspiring and teach me so much everyday. I'll now teach ALL subjects at Lord High School in MacLaren's YCF as of July 6th. I'm still getting used to the new, bigger place. "Let what you love be what you do."
Military
N/A...have friends and family in the armed forces, but you'll never see me there. I support our troops, not our government at the moment. Peace.
