Heather's Story
Life
After High School, I went to U.B.C., Kwantlen College, and then U.B.C. again. I finished my B.A. majoring in Psychology in 1995. I worked as a youth director at a church briefly and then went to school in Seward, Nebraska to receive graduate level training as a Director of Christian Edcuation with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The program required a one year internship wherever the school chose to send us. I went to East Wenatchee, Washington. While still on my internship, I met my husband on a blind date. The church there asked me to stay after the internship and I worked there until our wedding on May 20, 2000. Yes, it took me until my late twenties to finally find just the right man for me - picky, picky, picky :) My husband is a dryland wheat farmer in Eastern Washington (100 miles from where I was working). We put a lot of miles/kms on our cars driving back and forth to see each other. I quit my job about 3 weeks before the wedding and lived with his parents while we finished preparing for the big event. rmanent resident status so I couldn't work at first and got to play housewife for several months. Once I was allowed to work, I did a little consulting work with churches until I was asked to be the supervisor and then director of a Christian daycare in a nearby town. We live way out in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not able to get a job in my own field since the churches around here are all to small to support a Director of Christian Education as well as a Pastor. I had to quit working during the summer of 2003 due to complications in my pregnancy, but was rewarded with a healthy son November 4, 2003. In 2004 I finally finished the Master of Parish Education degree I started while completing my Director of Christian Education training. On August 21, 2007 my husband and I were blessed with another healthy son. I'm hoping to stay home with the boys for at least a few more years. Because of my older son's food allergies and our living so far from town, we may decide to home school. I'm doing some freelance writing, consultant work with church organizations and web site design in my "spare" time.
