Henry Einarson:

CLASS OF 1970
Toronto, ON

Henry's Story

I stayed in the Parkdale area for the beginning of university at U of T. When I took some time off to live in Vancouver in he early 70s my father sold the house and I moved into Campus Co-op - an easy walk from Nemisis House, continuing to go to the old Innis College building in Macdonald-Mowat House before the new site on Sussex was built. From there I moved to North Jarvis, living 5 minutes away from Bloor and Yonge. I got involved in the politics of downtown Toronto and an active member of the Ward 6 Community Organization. 1981 my father died. I was fortunate enough to be living in a housing co-op and made new friends and neighbours. In 1983 one of my older friends told me he wanted to find out about a man who was a double agent in WWII. I was not a fan of the James Bond cult and still have not really seen the Bond movies, but the spy was so intriguing I told him I would like to help with his investigations. It would be an interest to follow and a chance to get over my father's death. Since I had no other immediate family I took the plunge and spent 4 months travelling in Europe in countries where English was not the first language. The experience was an eye-opener. ...Expand for more
When I got back to Toronto I realized I was open to finding out more about myself and moved to Vancouver with my then-wife. We lived in an area called Grandview-Woodlands and I get involved with the neighbourhood and a church - not a traditional church, but one open to many different faith systems. I also got my first driver's license. One of the things I missed about Toronto, and still do, is the transit system. I found to explore Vancouver and area a car was far more important. In the mid 90s my ex and I split up and I met my present wife - Margaret - who charmed me with her Irish brogue. We have visited Ireland a few times and I gained a daughter, born to her first husband. Finally, at age 50 I fathered my own son - a boy - who was assessed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I worked at VPL as a library assistant from 1995 until I retired in 2018 and now live in Burnaby, the suburb immediately to the east of Vancouver. I don't get back to Toronto but still have fond memories of the adventures I had there. My son is now a young adult and my wife is planning for her retirement in a couple of years. Love to find out what is happening to my high school and university mates.
