Henry's Story
NOTE: VASHSON PERSONS: VISITING THIS SITE--I am not from Vashon, my wife, Shirley Whittaker is the graduate. Classmates, for some reason added her to my account.
Life
Met Shirley Whittaker from Vashon Is, Wash. Fall of 1956 at San Jose State.
Married in 1957 and had three children; Tamra, Stephen & Elysa. Kept working for Hewlett-Packard until I retired in 2000.
Retired as a Project Mgr./Sales Solution Deployment, from Hewlett-Packard on May 15(00') after 46 years, but was rehired 1 month later on contract, to finish a project with Longs Drugs who was unhappy with my replacement.. Shirley and I are continuing living in Sunnyvale (since '59, but in 1999, aquired a second home in Sonoma County, in Guerneville, near the Russian River (never flooded) as a "quiet" get-away place and also to be near our two daughters and granddaughter, who live in Santa Rosa. The nice thing about retirement is that every day either feels like a Friday or Saturday. Cruises and trips---we have been taking. Have been in fairly constant e-mail contact with several classmates, but would like to expand the circle, especially now that I have more time. . UPDATE----We took two cruises in 01'. n 9/11. Shirley and I are looking forward to more adventure in 02'.--------UPDATE 2008---Been awhile since I uupdated this. We now have two additional grandaughters, Mikaela (Laila) 31/2 & Karissa 11 mo, who have made our retirement a joy. Love being a Grandpa (or Papa ). Am still enjoying good health. We have taken more cruises to Russia & the Baltic countries, Mex. & Alaska as well as land trips to Ireland and 3 weeks with our oldest daughter, Tamra, to various countries in Europe. In 2006 we went up to Vashon Is, WA for Shirley's 50th class reunion. Island weather was perfect for the occassion at a classmates family home on the water. Last year (2007 ) we had a big party to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Shirley would like an excuse to have another like it very soon.
UPDATE 2010--Had our 50th class reunion last year. Good turnout. We signed up for a Disney cruise for Jan. 30,2011, with our graddaughter Maia and our daughter and husband.. UPDATE MARCH 2012------Finally decided to sell our Guerneville home after 13 years as it was becoming more of a burden to maintain two homes and costly. Luckily the depressed housing market did not keep us from making a quick sale and good profit. Shirley and I are making plans for our 55th anniversary and hope for many more. We are enjoying the growing grandkids.
