Herbert's Story

I was born in 1973 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. I am the third child of five, and the eldest of two boys. In 1977, my parents moved us to a farm near Ellsinore, Missouri. I lived on that farm until 1984. I attended elementary school at Ellsinore. However, before the consolidation, I had to take the 3rd Grade and 5th Grade at Grandin. The teachers that I had while I was attending Ellsinore and Grandin were Mrs. Stahl (Kindergarten), Mrs. Leach (1st Grade), Mrs. Westbrook (2nd Grade), Mrs. Gargac (3rd Grade), Mr. Chapman (4th Grade), and Mrs. Love (5th Grade). I played civic league baseball for one year at Ellsinore, and I was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Then in the summer of 1984, my family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. We moved into a house near Prospect Lake. However, we only stayed there a month or two before we moved to Widefield, Colorado, and we lived in that town until 1992. I attended Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and that is where I finished the 6th Grade. I had Mr. Austin for my teacher. The following year I attended Watson Jr. High and I was there until about half way through my 8th Grade year. I was then transferred to Sproul Jr. High, and finished the 8th Grade. I finished up my High School at a small private school that pretty much was akin to home school. That is why I officially am not a part of any High School, even though I was around the area, or still knew the people I would have graduated with. I graduated from this home school in 1992. In 1989 I was involved in a vehicle accident while I was en route back from my grandmother¿s funeral. I was nearly killed and I had to be air-shipped to St. Louis. Needless to say, I was pretty scarred up for a long time, even today, but it is harder to notice as the years go by. I believe that this was the catalyst that turned me deeper into a loner and into solitude. I worked at various jobs while I was in Colorado, but in 1992, I left Colorado with my family to head back to Poplar Bluff, Missouri. I worked at various jobs since then as I made my way through college. I graduated from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff in 1996 and then moved to Canton, Missouri to attend Culver-Stockton College and to study Theatre. I also became a member of the Lambda Chi A...Expand for more
lpha Fraternity, but the following year I decided to transfer to Cape Girardeau, Missouri and attend Southeast Missouri State University. Even though I continued some with the Theatre department, I had switched my major to Criminal Justice. I received my Bachelor¿s Degree in 1999, and I completed half of my Master¿s Degree in Administration in Justice, but I grew disillusioned with Academia and I walked away. For six months, I worked 70 hours a week at a Proctor and Gamble Factory, but news of layoffs coming down the pike prompted me to find something else. It took too long to get a job with the State, and I was not all too excited about the career I had chosen any more anyway. I went to Truck Driving School in 2001, and to this present time, that is what I am doing now. I plan to ease myself out of this job in a couple of years or so, and I have had the opportunity to visit a lot of places and seen a lot of people. I have some goals and ambitions hidden within myself that I am bursting to set out and complete once I feel the timing is right. I do a lot of reading, questioning, and searching, particularly the Bible, history, philosophy, and astrology. I have become a man obsessed with finding the Ultimate Wisdom and Knowledge of God and the Universe. I can sit and tell a lot of tales, I can sympathize, understand, and empathize. I can share and I can hold. I have decided to live a life of character, at least the best that I know how. I try to live out the principles of love, mercy, and forgiveness. I am not a religious person. I loathe religion and feel that I am too spiritual for that nonsense and control. I believe in a life of grace and freedom, and I try to make no attempt to proselytize. I may lay out what I think or believe, and why I believe it that way, and if someone wants to pick it up, they are free to do so, or if they want to leave it on the table and walk away, that is their choice also. So I am looking forward to the future and seeing what each day brings. I would be honored to meet some of those that I have known in the past. Peace, Love, and Grace to all.
