Hieu's Story
I moved to the US in the early 1990s and settled in NJ with my parents and brothers. I barely spoke English in school and was growing up in a family that spoke Vietnamese, Mandarin and French didn't help either.
I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right.
Life doesn't always turn out the way you expected. For me, it came out better than expected. I didn't think about going to Stevens Institute of Technology. It was too expensive and I didn't even consider engineering until my senior year of high school. I thought maybe Rutgers or NJCU or even St....Expand for more
Peters College. Maybe become a teacher or become a technician. Now, I am working as an electrical engineer at Arup, an international planning & engineering consultancy firm.
During college, I lived in the dorm, joined the Greek system (proud member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity) and took part in campus life. I enjoyed Sunday coffee house, bowling with friends, attended Boken, camping/hiking trip with the school, etc.
I used to work at my uncle's restaurant, The Little Saigon Restaurant. Even though I left the restaurant business in 2007, the restaurant is still going strong. It have since relocated to 19 Elm Street, Montclair, NJ.
