Hugh's Story
I'm Kevin Sweeney and my dad was Hugh. He died in 1969 when I was 1 so I never had a chance to get to know him. My mother didn't speak much of him while I was growing up, as it was a sore subject. She also died when I was young, so I didn't have much chance to find things out about him. My father was also an only child, which left me without aunts or uncles to ask about him either.
I realize this is a long shot, however I thought I'de try using classmates to find people that may have known him. If anyone remembers him, or anything about him, please contact me through here with anything you might be able to share. I'm trying to find out a little more about him such as his personality, if he was the class clown type or more reserved; sports he liked or played, etc. I've also posted some of the few pictures I have of him or that he had, and am hoping somebody may be able to help identify some of the other people in them. I also set up a facebook page in his name with pictures there as well.
As far as what I do know is that he graduated from Notre Dame with a Bachelor's in aerenautical eng...Expand for more
ineering. He was a cook in the army from '53-'57 and then the reserves to 1961 (no idea of unit or anything as I found his military record was destroyed in a government building fire in 71). In 1958 he married my mother Barbara Maxwell, who coincidently was from nearby Cranston, however they actually met in Hartford in the 50's. I'm the youngest of 4 kids. Also, from what I was told told, my dad headed one of the engineering design departments at Pratt in East Hartford at the time he died. Other than that there really isn't much else I know, I'm hoping I can change that here. I would greatly appreciate anything that someone might be able to share.
Also, for St Leo alumni, I scanned an old yearbook which I'm sure was my dad's. If anyone can identify anybody in it that would be great, as none of the pictures were marked (I can't even tell which one my dad is). I uploaded the album to photobucket and can be found at the address below (which needs to be copied and pasted into the address bar because classmates blocks posted links)-
