Ingrid's Story

After Dixon High School, a Masters Degree in Remedial Reading took me far away to Argentina, where I was employed as the Reading Specialist for the American School in a suburb of Buenos Aires. This opportunity gave me the experience to discover the wonders of Argentina, its people and, of course the Spanish language. Many other South American countries and their people were discovered during the semester breaks. Four years later, I returned to the USA briefly, only to drive my sports cars down through Central America for a teaching position in an elementary school in San Jose, Costa Rica. After a year there exploring that beautiful country and working with the Costa Rican Conservation Corps during my school break, I interviewed for a teaching position in Guatemala. I left Costa Rica and drove up to Guatemala, teaching there for a year in the jungle. I taught for EXMIBAL, a Canadian nickel mining company, and was there during the devastating earthquake in 1976. I returned to the USA and taught a bilingual first grade class in Elgin, IL, for nine years, before I decided to enroll in the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Three years later, I graduated with a degree in Fine Art. That opened the door to a wonderful creative life to follow. My gallery, Hidden T...Expand for more
alents, was opened in St. Charles, IL, within two years of my graduation from art school. This was a very busy time with weekend art shows, gallery exhibitions, commissions, teaching painting classes and workshops, and doing the business of art! Three years later I moved to Chicago where I now continue my art career with gallery exhibitions, commissions, teaching at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art and at Northwestern University. Added to this is my LOVE for adventure travel to foreign countries which include Africa (many times), China, Australia, Europe, Thailand, Indonesia, Peru, and the Amazon. I have two parrots, a Moluccan Cockatoo, "Houdini", who has been with me for 25 years PLUS, and a talkative African Grey parrot who greets me each morning with a "GOOD MORNING, I SEE YOU"! Added to these two treasures, is my rescued 18 month old maltipoo puppy, "Mr. Belvedere", who is my companion on those long walks by the lake each morning. My many blessings include good health, good friends, and work that I LOVE to do! I enjoy painting and creating new images. I also enjoy teaching others how to paint and how to develop their "personal best" in paint! Many of my students now invite me to their shows, which, I feel, is the ultimate compliment!
