Irene's Story
After LHS I went to UNH for my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Elementary Ed. However, wanderlust took its toll, so after graduation and a short stint waitressing at Mittersill, I outfitted my Dad's old station wagon and hit the road. Although I intended to see all 50 states and Japan before returning to Littleton, fate had other things in store for me. In the process of covering everything east of the Mississippi, I visited a lot of friends, spending only three nights on the road in motels or campgrounds. My car died of tin cancer in Houston where I was visiting my Aunt Irene and her family. That pit stop took about 13 years which included two marriages, a two year hiatus in Chile, South America setting up and running a t-shirt shop for my in-laws. My daughter, now 27, was born in Houston. My son, 24, was born in Chile. The Houston time also included getting certified to teach bilingual classes in elementary school, a Master's Degree in school counseling (a gift from God!), and lots of time to be with my sister Fran who joined me there.

where I got to be home with the kids for a year, then worked part time at the St. Anne's Church Nursery School with the four year olds. Then a friend invited my husband to join in expanding their transmission business, so we came further south where I worked at the transmission shop, got recertified to teach in Florida, got a divorce, started working as a counselor (18 years now and another gift from God). In 2004 I achieved certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in School Counseling. I have a home in New Port Richey and my kids are still close by (their dad returned to Chile after our divorce). I have two cats, a dog, a lovely garden which I enjoy, and thoroughly enjoy the sunshine!
Update: 10/2/15 Still living in New Port Richey, FL and would love to hear from friends who may also have migrated this far south! Am retired and considering getting some part time work eventually, but for now am enjoying my leisure time! My daughter is teaching in Baton Rouge, LA, but my son is still nearby. My sister, Fran is in Houston and her daughter in New Orleans, so we had a mini-reunion in Louisiana with our girls. Lots of fun!
