Irene's Story

Two years after graduation, I married my high scool sweetheart, Ken Brown, who by the way went to Sentinel. We moved to Idaho Falls, ID in 1984 and have been here ever since. We have two beautiful children, Jennifer and Scott. Jenny got married last summer and is attending Idaho State University. She will graduate next year with a degree in Political Science. Scott is attending Boise State University in Boise ID majoring in Biology. We also have two dogs and a cat. Libby & Jake are Rat Terriers and Sassy is a siamese mix. Ken is the Captain of Detectives for the Idaho Falls PD and I am the Animal Services Manager. We both love our jobs but are looking foward to retiring in the near future. We have a 2006 Harley Ultra-Classic which we spend most of the summer riding. I also have my own bike to ride around town. We also enjoy camping and dirt bike riding. In the winter we spend most of our time in the bowling alley. We used to snow ski, but after 5 knee surgeries, the doctor told Ken he need to quit. One of my favorite activities is ringing handbells in my church handbell choir. It has become my passion and I attend conferences and festivals whenever I can. The Big Sky Handbell Conference is held somewhere in Montana every year and I don't miss it! Ken's parents and brother and sister still live in Missoula, so we get back several times a...Expand for more
year. While in High School, I was very active in Job's Daughter's. I was Honored Queen of my Bethel and one of my biggest thrills was seeing my daughter installed as Honored Queen of her Bethel. Jenny also went on to become Grand Bethel Junior Princess and Supreme Bethel Musician. Shortly after Jenny's 15th birthday, she suffered a stroke. She was diagnosed with blood disorder that causes her blood to produce clots and a hole in her heart. She was taken to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City for open-heart surgery to repair the hole. The effects of the stroke were temporary and she fully recovered. We feel very blessed that she was able to survive this ordeal. The old saying "what doesn't kill us make us stronger" is so true and we feel truly blessed. She is quite the young women now and we are very proud of her. Scott is crazy about Motocross and we spend alot of time at the track. My heart is in my stomach whenever he is racing, but he loves it and his injuries have been minor (broken wrist and dislocated shoulder). In my job as Animal Services Manager for the Police Department, I am in charge of Animal Control and of the Animal Shelter. The hardest part of my job is having to euthanize 10-20 animals each week that would make great pets. The one wish I have is that everyone would "Spay and Neuter their Pets"!
