(Jack) Al's Story

Well, I've been a lot of places and done a lot of things since 1973-74. I became a father in June 1973, and an event like that will put a person on the ground & running when you're only 17. I got married to Penny a year later, bought a house or two, had another son in '76, lived & worked in Rush City until 1980 when the honeymoon came to a screeching halt. I moved out to Grand Jct CO that year to get a fresh start, and got married again in 1982 to Ruby. I worked at a shale oil industrial site by day, & hooked up with a weekend band & played weekends. Then the shale oil project went belly-up with Exxon so again I was without a job. Decided to go full time with the music & started the life of a road band, playing all over the western US. We also recorded our original music in a local studio on a regular basis, to bring the business up a notch. The dark side of cutthroat music politics began to show its ugly truths. We had a son in '83 & a daughter in '84 during this period. The road life took a heavy toll on the marriage in those years, but I still tried to keep it all together. Went through a separation, while having another daughter in '89. The marriage was obviously over, but I was able to keep afloat with music until 1990, when the business headaches began to not be worth the money. Went back into the steelwork at Grand Junction Steel in April 1990 &...Expand for more
started another divorce process. I continued working in the steel bridge business up until 2004, got married a 3rd time in 1992 to Susie, but had no children of our own. We divorced in 2000. "Strike three, you're out!" A disc in my lower back finally gave out in 2004, had back surgery, but I finally had to quit the steel industry in 2005 due to recurring chronic back problems. I moved back to Minnesota and went to college 2 yrs to upgrade my skills with automated machine programming, tool & die, etc. I landed a good CAD/CNC (automated machines) job in Oregon in early 2008, but the company had a massive layoff when the stock market collapsed 6 months later. I am now back on home turf in MN and I do not plan moving anywhere ever again. Semi-retirement is now my job category, & I'm living life one day at a time, in order to get a little better "gas mileage". I had always wanted to be a musician while I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a decision I would have to make. I'm glad I made that choice, although it has brought a harder struggle at times. And now as I look back,. I also realize that It was the music that I was married to first, and that is why my love life was like riding a roller coaster. I am content now just being single, without romance, and 40 acres of elbow room to live on. ....And now, you know the REST OF THE STORY.....!
