Jack's Story
I went to school at Lake Forest College (north of Chicago) from 84-88 (the highlight of which was that I got to live in Paris for a while), and then got a job in Chicago. On Dec 14, 1989 it was so cold that by the time I walked the three blocks from the bus stop to my office, I was unable to open my hands and open the office door. When they finally unthawed, I called my roommate and told him I was moving to California.
I went to grad school at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, from 1990-1992 and got an MBA in international management. Had an opportunity to go be a bum for a few months in Tokyo, so went to Japan for about 6 months, and then moved to San Francisco. Lived there for about 6 years. Moved to Los Angeles for a relationship. Huge mistake. 2 years in West Hollywood. Then moved up to Seattle. Worked for around 5 years for Microsoft in ...Expand for more
their M&A activities. Spent a lot of time in Fargo, ND and Copenhagen, Denmark. Burned out after several years of 14-16 hour days. Got offered a position in Portland with Banfield, The Pet Hospital. Lovely people, but I was bored out of my mind. So, I decided to move on. Have been at small educational software company (NWEA) for a couple of years. I do a lot of SQL query programming these days as that is the path my career has sort of flowed into.
2010--
Survived (barely)my first marathon back in October 09. Am going to attempt another in Carlsbad, CA on 1/24/10!
Working on another novel.
Going to take a shot at getting the first one (written years ago) published.
My partner and I have found a vacation/retirement (eeks) place in San Francisco. Spent most of Jan 2010 gettting the place set up.
