Jack's Story

Life (as of 2007) I have been practicing business and tax law for 35 years. My wife and I live in a rural community north of San Luis Obispo, CA. My wife taught kindergarten in Templeton for 16 years, and has been teaching first grade the last five years. We moved here from the Bay area in 1976. Margaret (Ganesha '66; Cal Poly '70) and I will celebrate our 37th anniversary on June 14, 2007 (we met at Cal Poly in May '67). We have three children: Jennifer (married, living in Agoura Hills, teaching science at Westlake High School); Jeffrey (married, living near Atlanta, GA, manages contracts for vendors at Earthlink.net in Atlanta); and Jason (single, working in New York City for American Express). Jennifer had her first baby, Connor, in 2003, and her second baby, Cassie, in 2006. Jeffrey had his first baby, Sam, in 2003, and his second baby, Luke, in 2006. I have enjoyed these last four years as a 'new' grandpa. My dad died in 1996 after cancer surgery (cigarettes). Mom is active and lives in Cypress, CA, near my older brother, Jim (BHS '58). My younger brother, John (BHS '67), lives in Los Angeles. I had a very good time at our class' 40th reunion weekend in June '04 (you can see 'free' photos at 40thbhsreunion2004.shutterfly.com), hearing about all the different paths my classmates have traveled from our common s...Expand for more
tart from BHS in 1964. Using the internet to creatively find classmates was especially fun for someone growing up without a tv until 4th grade. God has blessed me and my family greatly for many years, and I am looking for a possible change in the direction of my life after having traveled to Almaty, Kazakhstan (July '03), on a 3-week mission trip for our church, and after building houses for Habitat For Humanity in Puebla, Mexico (Oct '04), Slidell, LA (Sept '06), and Los Angeles (Oct '07), and for YUGO.com near Ensenada, Mexico (July '04 & July '05). I continue to volunteer locally for Habitat For Humanity (Restore & building homes), Loaves & Fishes (groceries), Peoples' Kitchen (meals), and our church. I would like to retire from practicing law, but it seems like folks still want to get paid for gas, electricity, food, etc, so I guess I'll continue planning other people's estates and probating their wills (who knew dead clients could produce so much revenue?). Life (update Jan. 2014) Margaret is now retired from teaching and I am somewhat retired. We still live in Templeton, CA, and we volunteer for various church-related activities. Our daughter and family still lives in So Cal, and both of our sons and their families live near Atlanta, GA, working in different jobs than in 2007. We now have six grandchildren.
